In the late 80's, I was flying LHR-JFK on TWA when they had a code-share agreement with GF. The aircraft they actually used was a GF L-1011-500 with TWA crews. Does this happen anymore or have alliances taken over?

It seems to me to be quite cool for code-share/alliances to switch eachothers aircraft. I could see, for example, CO 777 operating a VS flight US-LHR and a VS 744 operating US-HKG.
