Now that DL's old colors are gone, I've noticed some aircraft previously in the old new have been repainted: N176DZ, N826MH, N828MH, N934DL. I'd like to know what other aircraft have been put into the new colors as well, with the new widget. I've also seen pics showing N128DL in the new colors, but I can't see the registration. Could some DL employees help me out on this one?

Are there any planes left with the old logo...black, white and old widget (from 70s and 80s)?

No, there aren't. The last was either N905DE, N906DE, N907DE, or N912DE, I'm not sure. But the old widget colors are officially gone.

There are maybe 25 aircraft that have been changed from the 97 colors to the new since late Sept. when the last widget was done. We paint about two airplanes a week.

Dalmd88,

Is it possible if you could list some registrations where this has occurred?

Although not a mainline bird, N669CA (A Comair CRJ-700) is in full n/c. I believe it was delivered in those colors. Saw it last week at SBN, photos in the queue shortly.  Big thumbs up

Why were there two significant livery changes in such a short space of time?

Jeremy

I have transitted CVG on a couple of occasions recently, and there were quite a few aircraft that were not in the new colour scheme. Sorry, can't supply a list of which ones they were, but I would say it was at least half of the aircraft there.

Regards

Andy.

N912DE was the last widget and was painted in late Sept, I believe. Actually there is one more widget on a 732, but it is in the desert. So we won't be seeing it in the air again.

Why would you spend the money to repaint a type (732) that you plan to retire? Does not make a lot of sense to me.

Dayflyer,

This also surprises me when you have other much newer aircraft still with old colours. How long is it suspected to take before the whole fleet is wearing the same livery?

Cheers,

Ian.

Perhaps you've answered your own question - they don't intend to retire them any time soon? Could be that information exists to the contrary - I don't know, but WN is repainting their 732's and Northwest is repainting their DC-9/10's, etc...

cheers,
Phil

DL's 732s were repainted because it's scheduled maintenance and they're not gone quite yet. I don't know of any specific plans to retire them in the near future but they are on the list. Also I believe many of them spent a spell in the desert so that may have something to do with it as well. I believe a lot of them were repainted immeadiately after being taken out of storage.

On a side note, I watched one come in on approach to STL yesterday. I love those -200s, they look like little rocket ships. Loud as heck too.

Ok, I guess it is time for a status of the paint post. We roughly have 100 mainline aircraft in the 97 colors "Ron Allen". Zero in the classic Widget. Last one was ship 9012, painted end of 9/04. 14 aircraft have been painted since then. Ship numbers 123,174,1702-1704,1706-1708,7001,7003,916,919,934,959. Currently 173 is being stripped.

A breakdown of what is left in 97 colors by type is:
732-11
733-15
738-22
757-21
762-2
763-38
764-1
777-0
MD88-28
MD90-0

How long will it take to get rid of the rest of the 97 colors? About 2 years. Some of the 737 will not get repainted before they are retired. Some of the 757 of both paint schemes could be converted to Song this spring. I haven't see a list of which are being converted. Either way the Song convertions, if they are done in house will tie up the paint line for a few months.

And yes the 737-200 are being retired, 377 leaves the fleet at the end of the month.
