What are the largest dimensions of cargo that the A 340 can house?

I don't know the stats, but I am lead to believe that the 346 can carry more freight than the 744.

A340-600:
Max. containers underfloor - standard/option: 42/43
Max. pallets underfloor: 14
Bulk hold volume - standard/option: 695/486 ft3 19,7/13,76 m3


B747-400:
Cargo hold 170.5m3 (6025cuft) or 151m3 (5332cuft).
747-400 Combi - Typical arrangement for six or seven pallets and 266 three class passengers.
747-400ER - Same as -400, but cargo hold 158.6m3 (5599cuft) or 137m3 (4837cuft).

You can do the math.

Summary: The A340-600 fuselage is 4.61 metres (15 ft 12 in) longer than the 747-400. With similar payload capability and as much as twice the underfloor cargo volume (from airbus.com)

The largest ULD that is loadable on an A340 is an AMF container. Base dimensions of 96 X 125 inches with contoured wings extending the width to 160 inches and an allowable height of 64 inches.



The 747 by comparison, can load larger AMU containers which have the same base dimensions (96 X 125 inches) but have a winged contour width of 186 inches wide and height of 64 inches. These are not loadable on any Airbus aircraft. The bulk compartment can contain single pieces of up to 260 X 36 X 26 inches (LWH) with a maximum floor loading of 150 psf when loading bulk items through the aft containerized cargo door.
