Lately I seen as many as three of CKs 747s at the MEM terminal air freight buildling at one time. Usually about 1:30p weekdays. This in addition to a CV240/340 from Tahoma that I'd assumed was hauling under contract to them but mau be for DHL. Does anyone know what has caused this market emphasis on MEM? What are they hauling?

Kalitta has been doing charters from Memphis to San Juan and Honolulu as part of the Christmas rush.
From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

One of the Connie's just received their clearance to travel from HNL to Memphis. Should be there in about 8 hours or so or maybe less.
I guess Fedex can't keep up with demand. Didn't know a full 747 freighter could make that long haul nonstop.

Thanks folks. I did not see FedEx equip for unloading at those gates so assume its all bulk loaded - wow Can't be. Hmmm. I'll have to try and get a better look. Interested if FE bins would fit from 10s to 747. That'ss the most 747s that I've seen in MEM since Fred got rid of the Tiger acft.

FedEx and UPS both soak up as much excess cargo capacity as they can get during this time of the year. During my time at Bax Global, this was always a busy time because we did our own scheduled flying on the overnight sort operation, and then had to track our aircraft that UPS was using during the daylight hours. One year, we had 20+ of our freighters flying daylight ops for UPS over a 3 week period prior to Christmas.
