Austrian business carrier Styrian Spirit has received its new Canadair Regional Jet OE-LSE which was painted in "Salzburg Spirit" colours with partly pink titles. It will be used for all flights operated from Salzburg. A new CRJ-700 will follow next year. As the owner of Maribor airport has bought 26% of Styrian Spirit operations out of Maribor will start in January.

There was an article in AW magazine (September 2004 p.45) stated that the airline might start flights to Cairo once the CRJ-700s arrive:

However, the arrival of longer-range aircraft will enable Styrian to offer flights further afield to destinations such as Cairo in Egypt. "It makes alot of sense to us, and this is why we are seriously looking at this fleet option." said Christian Lesjak, Styrian's Director of Marketing and Sales.

Are there any firm plans?

Hi Horus... honestly, would you want to fly from CAI to Austria on a CRJ?

I can't help it, but flights the length of HAJ-MUC (about one hour) are the most that I'm willing to sit in one of those things...

Then again - if demand is there, why not?

Frank

Well, considering the great service you get onboard, I would definitely be pleased to fly with Styrian even on a longer route.
I don't know about that CAI plans, but I think the CRJ-700 would fit to a large number of new longer destinations. It's all about demand.

Marlene

Hey Frank, I suppose flying a RJ between CAI and Austria would be tight, but Eurowings used to serve both CAI and ALY with scheduled BAe-146 flights back in the 90s. The latter still gets the odd charter every now and then.

Marlene, be sure to keep us up-to-date of any news! Thanks

It is called Slovenian Spirit and will start service from Maribor next year!

Great to see that things are moving in Austria's airline business.
Cheers,
Wernair
