What Is The Status Of Canjet's New Fleet?

According to Canjet's news releases at least two additional 737-500's should have joined their fleet. In August, they announced the addition of four 737-500's to their fleet, and then in November the airline announced it's replacing four owned 737-200's by newer 737-500's.

In the first new release Canjet said the first aircraft will arrive this fall, the rest before summer of 2005, and in the second announcement they said the "new" 737-500's will start arriving by the end of November. Given that Canjet already has one 737-500, they should have at least three by now, and nine by summer 2005.

Does any know when exactly is Canjet going to acquire their new planes ?

Does anyone at least know who's 735's Canjet is buying, or why it is taking them so long to acquire the planes.

The reason I am asking is that I don't feel comfortable flying on an airplane that is older than I am. I suspect this fear is probably ill-founded, or is it ?

Also, I know Canjet does not disclose their financial statements, but any estimates (or educated guesses) on their seat-mile cost ? I am interested in knowing that of JetsGo too. I have searched the web (extensively) and found nothing.

Hey ViveLeYHZ,

I work for C6. Our second 735, tail #505, went into service last Monday. Expect to see 735s added from now on at a rate of about 1 every 6 to 8 weeks for the next several months. Our last 732 will be retired by this time next year. They're fine to fly on, but their fuel efficency and dispatch reliability aren't the best.

Don't fear flying on old aircraft, besides most of our 732s were built in the 80s, hardly old by aircraft standards. Remember, the true measure of an aircraft's age, is not its age in years, but the number of cycles the airframe has. Also as an ex-7F employee, I used to love flying on the 727-100.

Hey YOW

As a former 7F'er myself I always felt safe on the 727's as well, but even safer on the even older HS748's  Smile

What is the status of pilot hiring with Canjet these days? Got the time and my name in with them, but alas no phone call for an interview....what does it take to get a "foot in the door"??

Cheers,

QO

Quad_Otter. I'm not sure how to go about that. I know the company has compiled a pilots short-list. Maybe you could try phoning C6's head office or send an e-mail to find out more info.

I wouldn't worry about the safety of Canjet's fleet, they're just as safe as every other airline. Up until (I think) two years ago, Westjet was flying a 737-200 built in 1968... 1968!! We've had, at one point or another, the 737 with the most cycles in the world, Southwest's first 737-200, and one other extraordinary aircraft. No accidents, but like YOW said, not the most reliable aircraft.

(for the record, those three aircraft are all retired now)

Update: The next CanJet 737-500 is in YHZ and will go into service within the next few days. The tail number is 503. Once the fourth 735 arrives sometime in late January, the first 732 will be retired.

YOW,

Are these ex UA 735s and if so, are they being worked on down in Lake City, FL by chance? Heading down that way in a few weeks, may be neat to see one prior to delivery...
Thanks
Jeffrey

I'm not sure A340Spotter. Apparently 4 are coming from Europe while the other 4 are coming from the US, which almost certainly means from UA.
