Future 737NG/A32X Orders

We all know that the next big battles in the narrow body competition are those coming from JAL and Malaysia.Apart these two , which are the others to come ?
I see Bangladesh Biman , even if it will be a very long episode............. , and maybe Sky Europe , as in one or two years (even before) they will need more planes , and surely will not stay stick to the 737-500.They are very competitive and i predict they will place an order for around 30 planes.
What did you hear/read ? What is your feeling ?

JAL is looking for a replacement of their 734/MD-80 fleet and have already solicited bids from both Airbus and Boeing. Order will likely be for 40 firm + options to be announced around Q1-2005, no idication as to which way they are leaning... but you can take your own guess.

WN is also rumored to be placing a substantial expansion order sometime soon, obviously for the 737NG, but possibly -800 variants.

Yes you are wright , China became a classic market , and surely we can expect many orders from there each year.
But apart that...................Who ?No matter , small or large orders.

I forgot PAL which is in negotiation with both A and B for around 12 airframes.

Any more ideas ?

A320s replace NZ's 762/733 International fleet for Tasman/Pacific operations, not the 733 single class on domestic.

It's been hinted a decison has been made, but not what will replace them.........

DBA in Germany has a requirement for 20-30 A32X or 73G. I believe they put out an RFP earlier in the year. Haven't heard whether they're still going ahead with the order.

AFAIK they want to order next year, and they want to negociate with both A and B. But, of course, deliveries will come later and I don't know if the 737NG is suitable for carrying freight.

Some years ago i remember to have read that DBA was looking at the A320 family.How is their health now ?

Also i forgot to mention FlyBe who is evaluating both 737NG/A320

Since some minutes , we know now the choice of Al Jazeera.

It would be nice if Olympic would do a move towards 737NGs , or better A32X to replace the ageing 737classics. They desperately need an update of their fleet. I would hope for the A32X series - for commonality sake with the A340 fleet of course -, a mix of A319s and A320s, with a nice IFE system like Swiss or Austrian have on their machines. leather seats with good pitch and 2-2 Business Class. Updated livery with an upper part of the fuselage in Dark Blue -Royal Blue with "Olympic" titles and rings in Gold colour. That I would like to see but I am afraid it is not for tomorrow....

There’s a plenty of airlines to order B737NG or A320 in the not very distant future. Major battles could take place for the following airlines:

- Aegean Airlines (13 B733/4, 6 ARJ100)
- Air One (31 B732/3/4)
- bmi baby (14 B733/5)
- dba (17 B733/5)
- Jet2 (12 B733)
- LOT (15 B733/4/5)
- MNG (5 B734, 5 MD80)
- Norwegian (12 B733)
- Olympic Airlines (16 B733/4, 3 B717)
- Thai Airways/Nok Air (10 B734)
- Varig (29 B733/4)
- Virgin Express (11 B733/4)


I expect most A320 and B737NG operators to remain loyal to their manufacturers, though we might see some surprises.

LOT , rumored once that the chairman would like to have an all Airbus fleet (A320/A330).Diplomatic discussions will determine their "choice"............

The airline plans to make a final decision and an order announcement within the next two years, said Nico Buchholz, the airline's head of fleet planning. Buchholz told The DAILY he expects a midlife update for both the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 Next Generation families and wants Boeing to offer a wider fuselage.

Lufthansa currently has a 130-strong narrowbody fleet, of which 59 aircraft are Boeing 737-300s and -500s. The oldest 737s are now about

15 years old, and about two-thirds of the fleet are already written off; the airline generally writes off aircraft within 12 years.

Buchholz stressed that while Lufthansa faces increasing low-fare airline competition, its does not want to shrink the European fleet.

In comparison, Air France currently has a European fleet of 144 planes, including 23 Boeing 737-300s/-500s. British Airways operated 111 mainline narrowbodies at the end of Fiscal Year 2003/2004.

With both the A320 and 737 in its fleet, Lufthansa wants Boeing to look at a larger-cross-section 737 based on the 7E7 technology. With regard to the proposed Bombardier C-Series aircraft, Buchholz is cautious on European sales prospects. While the aircraft would be capable of operating U.S. transcontinental services, Buchholz believes it does not need the range in European operations and therefore is likely to carry too much unnecessary weight.

Lufthansa continues to be interested in a slight stretch of the Boeing 747-400 to accommodate about 40 additional passengers. However, Boeing would have to build in systems upgrades and 7E7 engines (as already proposed by Boeing) to make it commercially viable. Buchholz was concerned about the development of 747-400 residual values, as Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A340-600 fleets continue to grow, and major carriers are looking at phasing out their 747-400 fleets.

Lufthansa, however, does not have plans to reduce its 30-strong fleet at this stage. Its 747s are either about 15 or five years old, with the youngest aircraft having been delivered only about two years ago.

Buchholz is confident about the Airbus A380 development targets.

While he expects the aircraft's empty weight to exceed Airbus specifications, it is still within Lufthansa's own estimates.

Lufthansa has ordered 15 of the type and recently added 10 A340-600s to expand the long-haul fleet. Of the seven A330-200s it has been operating on an interim lease basis before its 10 A330-300s are delivered, the airline plans to keep flying four.

DBA is going to be an interesting fight :
Since Boeing wants to sell 737s cheaper to low cost airlines now, DBA could get a very got deal especially after Boeing lost their long time customer Air Berlin.
An order of german carrier would be got news for Boeing especially since a lot of airlines decided to go with the A32X thesedays.
Airbus on the other hand doesn´t want to loose a homeland carrier.
I hope for the Boeing -although I am a big Airbus supporter-I just love to see the 737, it is a beautiful aircraft and only A319, A320,A321 at TXL would be very boring. I am always for a good mix  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

As Zonky said the A320s are replacing the B733 and B762s on International and Freedom Airs B733s. Yes expect another order for the domestic B733 replacement.

I have already revealed in another thread that the domestic 733 fleet replacement has been made but won't be announced for a while yet. I am not allowed to reveal what that decision is.

Well all BMIBaby seem to be getting at the moment is more 733's (see other thread on their current expansion plans).

At somepoint, they will have to upgrade and at that point it will then become IMO a 319/737 battle, but I can't see it for at least 3 years. They have just taken out leases on 3 ex Buzz/Ryanair 733's and although I don't know how long they are, seems to signal their current intent at least.
