This is excellent news for Rickenbacker. Evergreen has flown in and out of Columbus on a charter basis for some time now, but now that the airline is making it a gateway city, I think we can look forward to a significantly increased investment on Evergreen's part in Central Ohio. Here are some excerpts from the article:
"We plan to turn Columbus into one of our gateways," Evergreen spokeswoman Jordan Hanson said. "It’s a good central location. It’s close to Chicago but not quite as expensive."
As a gateway, Columbus will be the prime location for consolidating goods before shipment to and from Japan. The cargo will be brought into Columbus from up to 60 destinations in North America by plane or truck.
Hanson said it is premature to say whether Evergreen will hire a full-time staff but noted the company established offices at its other gateways in Houston, New York and Portland, Ore., Hong Kong and London.
