In a post a while back about TWA, somebody said they bought there 747sp for a new JFK- China route. Now I can not see how a 747sp can flight from New York to China non stop. So if TWA could start this route, where was this flight post depart from LAX or SFO, and why TWA did not go ahead and start this route.

I'm quite sure actually, that if this were true and TWA did in fact buy their SP for JFK - China flights, that it would be able to make the haul non-stop. In fact, its range is such that I doubt it would have needed any kind of restrictions on payload as well.

TWA at one time flew to Taipei, never to mainland China. (PRC). I'm not sure if they were looking to begin service to China or just bypass Tokyo to reach Taipei. This route ended sometime in the mid-late 70s when TWA gave up their pacific operations and PA gave up service to TWA's best European cities-Paris, Rome, Madrid, etc.
