Anyone have any information on the AA A300-600 that made an emergency landing in IAD tonight around 2020 local time on runway 1R? I saw ALL the firetrucks and security vans line the runway and escort him in once he landed. There was some slight holding south of the airport too. Anyone know what happened? He went back out a few hours later.

We got planes! We got gates! What the hell!

It was flight 789 from JFK to SDQ.

The only reason posted is "Passenger Service".

The plane was enroute from Santa Domingo to JFK when a passenger became "unruly". Don't know much more, that's all the media is reporting.

I'd be interested in knowing why the captain picked IAD, it seems a little out of the way to me. Of course, I don't know what route ATC had assigned, nor do I know what kind of weather there was enroute.

Going from SDQ to JFK, you'd make land fall at ILM and then go overhead ORF into JFK. If you look at the available airfields enroute, IAD is definitely the best choice for an A300 to divert to.

What was the reason that it led to an Emergency Landing because of the Pax.And if so why the Fire Trucks.

MEL,
Supposedly it was do to an unruly pax. The fire trucks at IAD and most other places roll any time there is an "emergency" operation and a diversion for this type of flight is classified as that.

moron passenger, the amount of money an airline spends to divert, the airline should sue the passenger for this.

Let's see, wasted fuel - about $10,000. Stress on crew - about $100,000. Stress on pax - (max 267, using 240 for estimate) 240 X $50,000= $12,000.

Let's call it $15,000 and 5 years jail time.

Sorry everybody, I was in a hurry and did a boo-boo.

I meant to say the unruly pax should be fined $15,000,000 and get 5 years each for their unruliness.

Apologies to all.
