NDTV and other news channels are reporting that 9W and S2 can finally fly abroard except to Gulf destinitions.
The Gulf destinitions are reserved atleast for the next 3 years for IC and AI

EXCEPT Gulf. And expect the AI mgmt to whine about "treating LHR separately". That is the catch.

AI has no confidence to tkae on the competition. And rightly so considering that it has reduced to no more than a degenerate third world carrier today. The ultimate victims of the "protect AI" attitude is the travelling public and the honest taxpayers who have to put up with shoddy services and rusty aircraft that have seen better days and crew who are more interested in pilfering items from the aircraft than in the passengers.

Is this permission going to be granted only to Jet and Sahara or are even the non-exsistant Kingfisher and the buy-your-own-samosa Air Deccan going to be allowed to fly abroad as well?

I hope I can fly on a Jet Airways A330 the next time I go to India.

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Instead of wasting time by ordering a bunch of new planes, if this decision is indeed true and holds considerable weight then both airlines should scout the market for young and used B 772ERs or B 763ERs to be obtained at good rates as its impossible finding A 332s and A 343s in the used market today.

If theyre smart, they should approach DL-UAL-AA to lease some unwanted B 777s or B 763s especially DL which needs the spare cash desperately and somebody to buy its cancelled few B 777-200ERs!!!

Speaking of B 767s...can someone plz tell me what is EVA AIR doing with its fleet of B 762s and B 763s? Are they still flying for the airline or gone to someone else? If so then who?

Well, I'm going to take this news with some skepticism. I've heard plenty of this and I'm afraid I'll need some more evidence to believe this (an aircraft perhaps  Smile ).

But, if it does happen...that'll be awesome. Will 9W and S2 use AI's unused frequencies into airports or will they be applying for their own?

When air bilaterals are concluded, the traffic rights are granted to the desginated carriers of the respective countries. Hence when international routes are opened up for private Indian carriers, their names will be added to the designated carriers from the Indian side. No airline can independently apply for their own set of traffic rights.

Here is a link to another article on the topic

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/974738.cms

It is good to hear this

To review the entitlements of private carriers if they reduce domestic operations after obtaining traffic rights on international routes

Hopefully this will be included as I am worried that private carriers will reduce domestic routes to launch international flights

Behramjee,

As far as i'm aware,EVA are still operating their 762 & 763 aircraft, however, i'd expect them to start leaving the fleet, perhaps as early as next year, as additional 332's enter the fleet.

So, does anyone know where are these unused slots that these two airlines would fly too.. ? I would think that AI is using every slot that it has into the US but I could be way wrong. ..thanks.

Here is an article on AI view of the announcement

http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2004/12/30/stories/2004123002600100.htm

According to this article it seems to know where IC wants to fly to. Hopefully it is correct because it would be interesting to see how well IC does flying to New Zealand. Also does anyone know if IC has actually been approved to fly to Saudi Arabia or is it creative reporting

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1041230/asp/business/story_4191449.asp

I hope that a calibrated approach happens as it will take time for AI to get used to competition from private carriers. This seems a possibility as said in some articles such as this one

Historical day for Indian Aviation though

Interesting News......My Decision on Joining 9W,IA or KF/DN might just be influenced now.

What would be the possible international Destinations 9W & S2 would sought.
What Aircraft would be most suited.
What About Mx Tieups.

hope the 9W learn to behave themselves and not pick up verbal duels with other airline pilots for take-off priority permission.

an article in mid-day says how a 9W captain abused an IC pilot for being given t/o permission after him. the ATC had to intervene and allowed him to t/o first. ridiculous.

What Aircraft would be most suited.

9W is already in the process of taking in A340-300's from a "European carrier" rumored to be SAS.

S2, given its past record of cheapness, could go for 767-200's.

IC is reportedly looking at A330's.

As a Bombayite, i thought u might be well aware of the reputation that his rag carries. They are the "Aaj Tak" of the print media! Only Mid-Day could have carried an article of the "Bandra Boy flies 20000 miles to vote" kind of crap.

I wouldn't think that SK is in a position to rid itself of one or more of its scarce wide body resources. As far as I know, the only A343s that are about to become available are the ex-Sabena airframes that are currently operating with LH. Unless AF would be willing to offload some of their A343 frames.

Will 9W and S2 only be operating internationally from major airports like BOM, DEL etc.. Or will they consider operating from other smaller airports as well?

As has been mentioned many times there are no 340s or 330s available on the market except for the ones HB-IWC has already mentioned.
It would make a whole lot more sense to go after those UA763s.  Smile
