FLY777UAL,
I don't have the actual stats, but at one time almost 40% of BA's summertime transatlantic business was transit. However, 60% of that 40% was Europe originating (mostly from Italy, Germany and France). AF also handled as much as 30% transit traffic, but again, the greater majority were European originating passengers (mostly from Germany and Italy). These are all economy passengers, and the percentage varies widely with seasonality. The most transit carriage occurs during the summer season with BA and AF. LH draws slightly higher transit traffic than the other two during the winter owing to better connections to ski destinations. From my days at AF, less than 10% of First/Business passengers were onward transit, and then mostly to second tier cities (Cities without their own direct transatlantic service).
