Just wanted to share a good laugh. Note that I think the DC 10 to be a wonderful plane and I would very much like to be flying on one of them again, but they are NOT modern, not by a long shot. Not even for South-American conditions. Same for the 727.
From the Santa Barabra Airlines Webiste:

Our fleet includes modern and powerful DOUGLAS DC10-30 and BOEING 727-200 aircraft with wide-body cabins that offer more space between seats for a more comfortable and pleasant travel to any of our destinations.

Many airlines advertise their fleet as modern even if its a bunch of DC-3. BTW;Your Southamerican conditions comment was kinda racist and completely ignorant.... here LA, AV, JJ, RG and many more use modern and well mantained planes.

Oh please don't get me wrong. I spent 7 weeks in Venezuela and loved it. I also know that LA is a great airline and that RG have modern jets. But that doesn't mean that my calling a DC 10 not modern even by South American conditions is racist. Get real and let's be realistic.

I kinda think that well-kept 727's and especially DC-10's can be called 'modern', but I certainly would love to get a ride in a widebody 727. Seat 18J please.

Sometimes some things get lost in translation. Come on, these are modern aircraft...they are jet powered, they don't have props. More seriously, they probably have been updated and renovated in the last several years, and are modern to them.

How about this for NW and those venerable old ladies of the sky, those DC-9's
You've got a passion for fashion, grab the wheel of your automobile and drive on down to Northwest Orient baby and step back to those swingin 60's, groovy baby, fly a Northwest DC-9 and feel like you are a jet settin swinger just like James Bond and Our Man Flint!"

Zippyjet promises to send NW a bill for this cutting edge advertising. Happy over-hyped holidays and Happy New Year.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Unfortunately for Zippy's ad campaign, the NW 9's are so well taken care of and freshly outfitted that the untrained flier doesn't know that they are any older than the A320 that they just got off of.

I can never resist having fun with those NW DC 9's. I see them every night here at BWI. They do look good, like Dick ClarK (pre-stroke). Only thing ticky tacky is NW's back to the 70's Tinkertoy livery.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Come on ! If you have been in Venezuela recently, you know that a DC-10 is "modern"  Big grin
And about the NW DC-9: Come to Venezuela (or to Mexico - Aerocalifornia) to see some a really old fleets. They would probably also call it "modern"  Big grin
