Can those experienced in "navigating" the various SFO terminals give me an idea of about how long it should take to walk from Gate 21 in T1 to Gate G98 in the International terminal? Would there be any time advantage in taking the AIRTRAIN ?
I assume that the time taken to get through security will be the "wildcard" in all this. How busy is it likely to be at about 8.00pm mid-week?

Looking at the information provided at http://www.flysfo.com, I would not quite recommend using the Air Train to get around. At 8:00 pm mid-week, it really shouldn't be that busy anywhere in the airport. How long is your layover? It would take about 10-15 minutes to get from gate 21 to the International terminal. Of course gate G98 is on the opposite side of the airport from gate 21, but you can still reach the check-in area in around 10-15 mins. Hope this was of any use to you.

Both T1 and T3 are adjacent to the International terminal and are connected by a walkway (T1 on the southside, T3 on the northside). I've flown into the International terminal several times before on a domestic flight that was continuing international (SEA - SFO - Puerto Vallarta, PHX - SFO - Puerto Vallarta) and have had to walk to either T1 or T3 domestic baggage claims. Its a short walk, only about 10 minutes. Do not take the airtrain. By the time you walk to the airtrain, you could have been at the Int'l terminal.

The International terminal at SFO is beautiful. I would recommend the walk as you have an all glass view of the entire airport and of the UA operations.

Gate to gate should be 10 minutes at a brisk pace plus an unpredictable delay for "security" theatre.
