According to what an IB's A343 First Officer posted as a caption in one of his pics, IB will retire their 2 B747-300s next April. I had heard before that IB planned to retire their 743s by the end of this year...which version is true? Federico? Can you hear me?
The total IB747 count at the end of last year was:
2 B747-200 (IB owned)
2 B747-300 (Dry leased from Air Atlanta)
2 B747-400 (Wet leased from Air Atlanta)
SOUTHAMERICA made an accurate description of the routes in which the A346 is being used right now...just forgot to add SJU and SDQ as occasional destinations for "the tube". The destinations/frequencies served by the A346 will of course increase as more aircraft join the fleet (6 delivered, 5 pending).

both the 742 and the 743 will leave the fleet by April this year. Flight engineers are leaving the Company for that date as there are no other aircraft types for them to work in.
We are receiving at least three more 346 to replace them before that day.

I think the schedule that the F/O gave was a little off. I saw that too and was a little puzzled. As far as the 2 B747-200's left in the fleet, only 1 remains. EC-DIA was retired before December 31st 2004. So right now the only B747-200 flying is EC-DIB which should be retired I believe before February 1st.
I believe that the B747-300's being retired in April are a bit optimistic as I head that they would not be retired until the end of 2005 as you said. Reason being, as the 340-300's and the 600's not reconfigured are taken out of service to be retrofitted with the new Business Plus, etc. we are going to need those two 747-300's to cover routes.
As for the 2 747-400's(wet leaseed) they should be flying well into 2006 strictly on the TFN and HAV routes. Obviously that can always change since we saw the 747-400 go a few times to SJU and SDQ.
Oh, and as an FYI...we are slated to take delivery of 2 A340-600's between now and February.

I had know clue that EC-DIA had been retired. I was looking for EC-DIA and DIB yesterday at MAD.
The Two B747-400 as said above fly to TFN and HVN.
The Two B747-300s fly the JFK, MIA routes but I believe that the JFK route is now A346s and A343s. Yesterday the 1:10 flight was a A346.
The Six A340-600s fly to New York, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Rio De Jenerio, and other South American destiantions.
The A340-300s fly to New York, Miami, Latin American destiantions and Africa.
I think that IB might change the MAD-JNB route to a A340-600 when they recieve there next to A340-600s.
I find it really sad that they retire the old B747-200s. I really hope that the Malaga aviation museum gets there hands on EC-DIA or DIB. I dont want to see what happend to EC-GAG and EC-HVD happeing on DIA or DIB.
How Many A340-300s does Iberia have?? Since August I have seen 10 different registrations.
