I am curious as to how the new routes out of IND are doing, any chance anymore will be added? Are any of them at risk of being dropped or is it too early to tell the success of these new flights. Have these new nonstops resulted in a drop in pax being flown to the 3 hubs or are those loads still the same? As a FF with NW I was very happy to see the expansion @ IND and hope for more. Also, has NW added any new destinations out of GRB? I think this was one of the cities mentioned for their growth plans in the midwest. Finally, is NW still flying DC-10's to PHX in the winter months? I used to fly there at all times of year and often would fly on a DC-10 to and from DTW or MSP in the winter and early spring. Are these being replaced by the A330 or 757 or is the DC-10 still being used?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

As far as service to PHX during the winter months....

From DTW .....3 757, 1 753, 1 A320 daily

From MSP.....5 757, 2 753 daily

From MEM .....1 A319 daily

I had a woman call me today looking for the best price from DTW to Ft. Myers...leaving on Jan 23 and returning Jan 30 for 5 people. The best price I could find for her was on Northwest....$168.60 round trip....nonstop DTW-RSW on 1/23, but connecting thru Indianapolis on the return.

Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.....

Yes, all of them. Just as soon as ATA is dead.

I'm not joking! This is my job!

ZID, I disagree...

NWA is expanding in 2005 in IND, and Feb. 16th, will start DFW and MCI non-stops too. That will be 51 flights a day with 18 destinations, going up to 20 destinations in 2005. From the Corporate news we are getting, NWA is totally committed to IND no matter what happens to ATA....

As for the DC-10 to PHX- special occasions only, none scheduled as they are worked pretty thin on HNL/LGW/AMS/NRT/BOM routes.....

I do, I don't, whatever.......

I connected at IND twice during the holidays, once yesterday (1/2) and on 12/23 (day of the huge snowstorm)...both times flights were running late and things were kinda messy. One thing I noticed was that they seem to be short on gates and definately short on employees-- for a time yesterday I saw two employees try and work three gates....they were so mentally fatigued it seemed that the CSR couldn't even spell the cities correctly on the gate information screen...there was a flight going to "WASHINTON" and one to "PHILADELPHIS." On the 23rd due to all the weather delays they had about 12 aircraft parked at their 5 gates and were boarding a mainline flight and two regional jets from gate A8 -- which has a stairwell down to the tarmac. Both times interestingly (12-23 i came into IND from LGA and yesterday I went in there from LAX)...there were quite a few people connecting with me to DTW...

Go Blue!!

When the expansion @ IND was announced the first thing I wondered about was where they were going to put all of those planes? I believe there are 8 gates in A concourse and they have 5 of them after HP was moved. WN has the other 3 gates I am pretty sure. Wouldn't it be a good move to switch WN over to C concourse with ATA and move CO out of C concourse over to A with NW? Or is this airport out of room and they are going to have to make do until 2008 and the new digs? Another thought, if US goes under there will be all kinds of room in concourse D and they could move everything there. Someone must be working on this as new flights to MCI, DFW, and PHX are coming up pretty quick. Is the nonstop to CUN going to happen? I believe that flight would have to depart and arrive thru the Int'l building which is separate from the airport?

The gate issue at IND keeps coming up. The airport is now pretty much maxes out. The easiest and cheapest solution will probably be to use some remote stands. There are plenty of them that ATA uses for charter work. Trying to realign every carrier there so that there is enough space is difficult. D is actually at capacty since UA uses 3 gates and US pretty much uses the others. I was amazed last Sunday when I passed through IND and saw that every single gate in D had an airplane parked at it. The only thing that will relieve the pressure from the overcrowded terminal would be the demise of ATA or US.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Thanks for the feedback. I am surprised to hear that it appears that NW did not have enough CSR's working, I would think they would have added additional staffing for the increased service. If this increased sevice continues, they really would be justified in having an entire concurse to themselves. The airlines in IND are not that excited about the "new" airport because it will result in higher fees, but if you have seen the over-crowded baggage claims and ticketing areas at IND you will quickly realize that this city is past due for a major upgrade. Back to NW, I flew out of IND just about a week before all of the new service was started and you could tell that it was going to be crowded in that concourse with having 2 very busy airlines all together (WN and NW). Will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.
