I might need to book a return flight from New York City area to Chicago area. Unfortunately, LCC such as Jetblue or Southwest seem not to fly there.
If you know how to get a cheap fare on that route, please be so kind reply here.
Thank you!

Try FlyI. I work there. They've got some pretty low fares from JFK-IAD-ORD.
Good luck!

Flights from MDW are usually cheaper. Continental has decent fares from MDW-EWR if you book in advance.... if you want to connect, you can go through Cleveland or take NW through Detroit.

An unexamined life isn't worth living.

WN ISP-MDW is a reasonably priced alternative if you don't mind going a bit out of your way.

I recall I found return fares in the neighborhood of U.S.$180 with legacy carriers in January, 2003 and ended up flying ORD-JFK with DL because I had a reward ticket. My friends who had to make the same trip all went with TZ MDW-LGA since it was the cheapest. Hope this helps.

    Next flights: MEX-JFK-FCO AM 788/AZ 77E | DBV-BEG-BUD JU AT7/733 | BUD-AMS 738 | AMS-MEX 74M
