"Justplanes" reports that ATA is planning to add around a dozen of jet to be named smaller jets as it reduces the number of 738 and 757 in its fleet.

Perhaps one of the last chances for the 717....thats what I hope at least.

While I don't have my hopes up for a 717 order, Justplanes also reports that they will reduce the 737 and 757 fleets to 18 each. I might just have not been paying attention, but I did not know that there were definitive numbers for their fleet changes.

My job is to make it so your flight is not delayed. Come fly the friendly skies!

I'm assuming that you mean 18 757-200s? Aren't their 753s going to CO?

From my research, they will have 4 753's left after CO takes 8..

I would gather the remaining 753's would continue the Hawaii runs (codeshare SWA). 4 birds for all the Hawaii lift seems a little light.

The great unknown is how TZ plans to continue charter service? L-10's still have some legs left in them?

ATA has long been rumored to be interested in the 717, and I as a life long Long Beach resident and DAC fan would LUV to see an order from ATA. As much as I hate to admit this though, I don't think the 717 is long for this world and the end of production could be announced at anytime during the next couple months.

Lets hope that someone steps up to the plate and buys some more birds, it would be very nice to the continuation of the commercial ramp at LGB.

Latest word I hear is that military charter ops will continue unchanged at this point.

I'm also guessing the 757 pilots fragmentation clause isn't worth the paper it's written on either at this point.

The fragmentation clause has 2 problems at this point. First it only applied if the airplanes were sold/transferred directly to an operating carrier. In this case, Boeing is taking the planes back and then leasing them to CO. Second, the Bankruptcy Preceeding. ATA could have asked the Judge to set aside the clause as part of its bankruptcy plan.

In any case.....I'm sure many pilots and F/A's at ATA will be recieving their furlough notices shortly.

I know a 737 captain and a 757 F/O and their both on the lower end of the seniority ladder....I'm surprised they haven't heard any news as of yet.

I doubt, if this rumor is true, that we'll see any new models joining TZs fleet, i.e. 717s or 737-600/700s. There are plenty of 737-300s and -500s going to the desert that could fill the need for smaller equipment at ATA. It would be tough being in bankruptcy to justify or even find financing for a new aircraft type.

When they talk about "Smaller Jets" I think they are talking RJs....I would believe it would be the CR7s or the EMB170s.....Since the summer of '02, they have always been talking about CR7s....But I do agree...I like the idea of going to the desert and getting cheap 735s/733s to fly...cost a heck of a lot less then the ones they are using now....oh well....
