The new Eclipse 500 personal jet made its first flight on December 31, 2004. This is very exciting news, especially after the program stalled with the problems from Williams International's engines. A good friend of mine has a delivery slot in 2007, I can't wait to fly right seat on that thing. Pictures and videos on the Eclipse website.

I have been eagerly following Eclipse's progress since I first learned about the E500 project in early 2000. What, a 4 four-passenger bizjet for ~USD 1.1 million? Are you serious? WOW!
I have been VERY impressed with Eclipse's ability to i) raise over USD 350 million in funding; ii) manage the development of an extremely-demanding project such as the E500 incorporating new production techniques such as stir-welding; and iii) successfully market its product to a broad range of customers, including private owners, corporates, air-taxi services, etc.
I believe the E500 will truly revolutionize the private jet market and hope to, well maybe, buy one for myself one day!!!

This is the first flight with the new engines. According to their website the real first flight was actually two years ago, admittedly with the williams engines...

The old williams engines were fried and didn't put out thrust like they wanted...so they had to go to the bigger and more expensive pratts.... look at the size difference with the old and new photos.
