I flew n/s EWR/HNL/EWR in 1987, and then there was a Pub, as well as 2/3/2 seating in J on the DC10. Three movies, and lots of great service! Any comments or memories?

Are your sure CO operated non-stop EWR-HNL svc in the 80's? I thought the service began in the mid-late 90's. CO flew n/s from IAH and LAX and DEN to HNL....but EWR????
I was in the Army on OAHU and had to fly via a connection to any NY area airport except for WO DC-10's with a 1-stop in OAK or LAX.

CO began flying to Honolulu from EWR in the late 1990s, prior to CO establishing the EWR hub in 1988 they operated a JFK-Honolulu-Sydney flight. The flight operated from Eastern's former JFK terminal and operated from '87-'88, the flight was a DC-10-30.
So you could not have flown out of EWR in '87, it had to be JFK.
"makes much more sense to live in the present tense"

I worked for CO at that time. The JFK HNL SYD (CO15) flight originally operated out of JFK but it was switched to Newark . I can't remember when, definately some time in the late 80s. It was usually a DC10 with business and first. The pub planes were the DC10-10 with only domestic F and Y.

Yes, EWR definitely flew EWR-HNL nonstop with DC-10s circa 1988, after they dropped JFK-HNL. Easy for me to remember since we used to see the return contrailing eastward over Oakland in the afternoon-- all the other flights from Hawaii to points east of here are/were overnight (except we'd occasionally see CP from HNL to YYZ early in the morning).

It was CO, and N/S both ways! On the return, we left at about 8:30AM HNL time, and arrived in EWR at about 9PM! I worked as a travel agent at the time and used a "AD75" for the flights (75 % off the full fare)

Sometime in 1986/87 CO started JFK-HNL nonstop-- it's in the 9/87 timetable, but the 12/87 shows the EWR-HNL nonstop instead (flight 15, same as now). It lasted into mid-1988, was gone by October.

I checked timetables/OAGs for
1982 Jan Mar Jun Sep Oct Dec
1983 Jan May Jun Sep Dec
1984 Jan Feb Jul
1985 Jan Feb Mar Nov
1986 Feb Mar May Jun Jul Aug
1987 Apr
1988 Jan Feb Mar Apr Oct
1989 Feb Mar Aug
No UA nonstop EWR-HNL in any of those, but there are a couple of gaps.
