Bit of a long shot this, possibly even a dumb question...
I'm paying for an economy to business class upgrade using OnePass miles on one segment of a connecting flight (I don't have enough for both legs). Is there any increase in the possibility of getting upgraded on the other leg, just because of being in biz class on one leg? FWIW it's a GIG-GRU-EWR flight and an EWR-LGW flight, connecting same day. If so, which should I pay for - 1st or 2nd leg?

It isn't likely you will be upgraded on one segment b/c the other was flown in BF. The only scenario where that might occur is if you are onepass elite and the segment you are flying in Y is overbooked...when that happens, they upgrade elites to J if there are any seats available. Personally, I would upgrade on the EWR-LGW segment, especially if it's on the 777. The 777 BF seats are outstanding. Even if it isn't the T7, you would probably be exhausted by the time of that flight anyhow, so a nice seat for a night flight would probably be worth it

Personally - having done the journey the opposite way in coach - I would upgrade on GRU-EWR. EWR to LGW is almost 50% shorter in terms of flying time and - especially if you are in the T7 from Newark to Gatwick - I would much rather get out of coach on the 762.

Why would you say that? CO's 762s have an additional 1" of pitch in the coach cabin vs the 777. Also, the 2-3-2 in the 762 is alot more comfortable, IMHO, than the 3-3-3 in the 777. You get the same exact IFE in the CO 762 as in the 777.

I hadn't noticed how different they were (1h20+9h55 vs 7h)! They're both night flights but I do at least get 12 hours of wandering around NYC (I can't handle that sort of time in one hit on a plane). EWR-LGW is indeed a B772; GIG-GRU a B764, and GRU-EWR and B762.
Hmmm. So do I get my money's worth by upgrading the 1st leg, or do I go for the more comfortable economy on the 1st leg...?
