With the most recent schedule change the last domestic operated 747's are gone from the ORD-LAX/SFO routes. I know that UA just started their second 747 flight from LAX-SYD that could be where it is. I know that the IAD-LHR flight and IAD/SFO-FRA flight's are both 744's, but that's nothing new. I know for a fact none have returned to the desert.

So any guesses where they have gone?

More military flying?

Asian routes?

SFO-PEK, they will be back. Enjoy the 777 for now.

That one was there for a while too...I wish ORD PEK would get them...they usually leave for the winter to go to Denver for ski season but they are gone for the summer too....sucks! Going to miss them!

There was nothing better than sitting in the upper deck of a 747-400....Now I'm going to have to fly somewhere far in order to enjoy the service...oh well...just an excuse for me to run off to London!

I'm sure they will pop up on domestic runs from time to time as subs and positioning flights--I'm also sure they will return to domestic services.

Don't worry, they've just changed the aircraft maintenance rotation schedule. If they are pushing more 777s through SFO right now, they are probably working on more 777s than 747s. I also believe that a good number of UAs 747s are sitting in the desert, so that may also explain why you are not seeing too many domestic 747 repositioning flights between IAD/ORD-SFO.

As others have said, eventually, they will have to go back on the domestic rotation when the loads on certain international flights require the use of the 747s. I don't think UA is pulling any additional equipment out of the desert these days.

Hope that answers your question.

UAL has *NO* 747's in the desert. All they have are the old 37's some 767-200's and 2 T7's, no 747's

UAL will schedule them into the domestic routes soon. With so many troops being deployed, and many now returning, they are working the whale hard.

UAL777Contrail,
Yes, I have noticed quite a number of the Europe flights have been upgauged to 747s. Is UA running separate DoD missions with the whales?
Just curious.
