Well it can happen only here .....  Smile

This was on all new channels last night as a breaking news , saying that there was an aircrash and that debris had fallen onto a slum. Also quoted was that since the aircraft was probably small there was no fire ....  Smile

I guess it was a meteorite - or a UFO crashed in the hills! (Panvel - Roswell same difference!!!)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Seriously - any news on what it really was - anyone?

No news anywhere about the crash , in face the news article says that the ATC was in touch with all aircrafts and that none of them were missing. Well as you put it , it could also be an UFO as discussed in this thread: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/712261/ , just that the aliens decided to move base to BOM from Laddakh , guess it was too cold for them there.

MEL, Karan, Sean (If you still ard) , can you guys see any wierd looking people roaming around BOM who are not politicians ? That would confirm what exactly crashed  Smile

Regards

When I reported at work around 2300 hrs I heard about some Explosion near Panvel reported by the FDO thru his buddy in IA.

I called karan [As karan would be awake] & asked him to chk the news,he got back with a news report of an Explosion heard at Raigad.Thereafter news started flowing in at the Airport of a possible crash or Metor strike, about some villagers hearing an explosion & seeing a ball of fire etc.

The ATC was trying to keep a track on any Aircraft missing from the list of Departures & Arrivals.[Maybe another Arms drop  Smile]

Out at the Airport news was around about what if it was a Aircraft,Which Airline, there was talk of an IA team being sent to Investigate.

However later it was the IAF Spokesperson who confirmed it was a S30 which caused a Sonic boom over the Area.

Things are still not clear.Guess we'll know soon.

Times of India reports that the Air Force confirmed that it was the sonic boom caused by a low-flying Sukhoi Su-30 frying from Mumbai to Pune AFB. The flames the people saw was probably the afterburners in full kick.

Well , no a.netters around there I presume , us folks would probably just be looking up at the sky and going "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL" while people run helter skelter thinking a damn meteorite had struck them . Hillarious !!

The Afterburner at night over a Dark area would be scary to a person not knowing about the Sonic boom  Smile
