NW did offer service before to BDA though it was out of BOS and was very short lived. And yes it is expensive as a destination to serve. The island of BDA does a lot to protect and maintain its status as a upscale destination.

AA has flown to BDA from BOS and LGA. But the problem has been that flights out of BOS/LGA depart before the first flights from ORD arrive. This ought to attract a lot of Midwesters, particularly people from Chicago.

I am pretty sure the Bermuda II agreement only refers to which carriers and which routes can fly to London's Heathrow Airport from the United States. It's called Bermuda II because that is where it was signed in 1977 (replacing Bermuda I). As far as I know, it has nothing to with service to Bermuda itself.

Its easier to get to than a lot of other islands. At least in BDA there are multiple carriers with daily flights to a number of destinations. Even if you are a NW FF you can still use CO or DL and their flights.

The Customs Hall is 22,698 square feet. Before you get to it, you'll see a revenue-raising procedure this author has never seen at any other airport, a Customs Duty Payable counter at which you have to break your step to line up in the queue to pay your exceedingly high rate of Customs Duty upfront if, as a Bermuda resident or visitor, you exceed your low $100 per person duty-free allowance. This includes toiletries and electronic items such as Ipods although I get the feeling that visiting tourists are allowed to import the latter free of charge - at least unofficially. Even this does not exempt you from Bermuda Customs Duty inspection which you pass through after claiming luggage from carousels.

Suggestion, buy your essentials upon arrival. One last thing, Bermuda is beautiful. Worth visiting despite the Customs hazzle

Bermuda II refers to where the US/UK aviation agreement was signed, that is correct. However, the agreement itself covers all US/UK aviation, not just LHR. BDA is included in the agreement. The only reason airfares into BDA are so high is because of the limited number of seats. Spirit used to serve BDA from ACY, I believe USA3000 currently has LCC service from BWI.

NW used to serve BDA from BOS? Doesn't DL have daily 767 service? No wonder it didn't work. Perhaps NW is operating the service to keep NK from grabbing the unused DTW authority? NW wouldn't do anything like that, would they? lol

I've been to BDA a few times, and have heard about Bermuda Customs. However, I've never encountered any personal problems.

Well it is now 757 service, but 767's usually return for the summer. Along with DL service to BOS there is daily service to
JFK 2x on AA 757, 762
EWR 1x on CO 73G
ATL 1x on DL 757
US 1x on US 757

Along with USA3000 service to EWR and BWI. AC service to YYZ and BA service to LGW.

Those are a lot of seats for an island. Moreso than a lot of other islands (at least for daily service).

I don't know that it's really a lot of seats. Don't forget that you have a good deal of business traffic going to BDA. It's not just leisure traffic. You also have an affluent local population that can afford to travel as well. Is not really fair to compare BDA to other islands.

FYI, last I heard, BA was only 4x week on their service.

Bermuda has more service than that. That's the off-peak schedule.

American will add non-stop MIA-BDA service on 2 March 2005, operating 5x a week with a 738 (it will start off at 2x a week, but be 5x a week in June). It will be year-round.

US Airways offers year-round, daily PHL-BDA service, but during peak travel periods, they also offer daily service on BWI-BDA, DCA-BDA, LGA-BDA, BOS-BDA, and CLT-BDA, as well as 2x weekly FLL-BDA and weekly MCO-BDA. And PHL-BDA increases to 3x daily.

United offers a weekly ORD-BDA during the summer period.

Air Canada adds weekly YHZ-BDA during the summer as well.

Bermuda is very high up there. Not as many seats as San Juan, Nassau, and Montego Bay, but definitley not far from Aruba.

Spirit, if they wanted to, could still fly BDA-DTW. There are only restrictions on what cities can be served between the US and Bermuda. There are none on how many airlines can fly each city pair.

Yes I was aware that this is the off-peak schedule. Even the off-peak schedule is impressive for an island destination.
I was just making the point that there are numerous seats and options for an island(s) with only 64,000 people.
Although I doubt I could have named all the US flights off the top of my head. I am impressed.
