I like the way it looks both in the interior, and the very sleek exterior. It is a little cramped however, especially in First Class - smaller seats are necessary, or a 2-1-2 configuration is used. Plus the economy seats aren't as wide as the 777's. Plus it makes some odd noises suring takeoff. OVerall though, it is a nice plane.

It is my favorite plane!! Silck exterior!!! haven't seen the inside. It is powelful aerodynamic and it has great fuel efficiency it has the mos range out of any commercial airline!!

What are everyone's opinions on the A340? What do you like/dislike about this aircraft?
Thanks in advance,

Dash 8, we all know the plane hasn't got five APU's. I believe that JR737 was jonking (in fact...I know for sure).
Could you also expand a bit on the 'disgusting cockpit layout and systems' as you put it ? Would be interesting to hear what a turboprop pilot has to say about it.

I really don't have any dislikes on the A340....I flew on Virgins from LA to London, a very nice flight....I like the seating config too, 2-4-2....not too crowded...I nice flight, quiet aircraft.

The A340 may have the most range in the text books but it can never fly those types of distances in the real world. Being efficient fuel wise has led to low passenger rates. It can't fly ultra-long hauls with many people.

I let you in on a little secret, not only does it have the most range in text books, but in real life also. The A340 can carry the payload it was designed for the distance it was designed for, that distance being longer then any other aircraft's. I think that in your effort to discredit this Airbus aircraft, you are looking too hard for a fault that doesn't exist. Have you ever actually heard of airlines being dissatisfied with the range of their A340s?

Yes I have. Last time we talked about this same subject. If the A340 can do what you claim, more airlines would be operating it on long haul routes. Almost all of the longest hauls are done by B747s not A340s. This is due to the problems I stated in my last post.

But since you are so eager to know, here we go again:
Awful interior:
In fact not much explenation is required because it was already posted somewhere in this topic, but I find the Airbus cabin way too cramped for such a large airliner. If you look at the window line you see how much they raised it just so they can fit larger LD-3's under there. Now I'm no cargo loader so my main concern is the cabin and that I don't like. Plus the cabin is very narrow compared to the competition which makes it even more cramped. But I guess they did that to increase the range.
Awful cockpit and systems:
I don't like that light blue, I don't like the side sticks and I don't like the flight systems. The side stick removes ANY feeling left that you're actually flying an airplane. The flight control systems have been extensively discussed on this forum and if you still want to know I'm sure you can find it somewhere on this forum. In fact the A320 had more OEB's than any other modern jetliners, although I'm sure they have been woked out by now.
So there it is. I think the A340 is a very sleek and beautiful airplane until you step into the office. That is a turboprop pilot's OPINION, which was asked for so kindly by Fly777ual.

Thank you Dash8. Now I suggest you keep your temper down a bit everytime you feel threatened. It got you in trouble before, remember ?
Fair enough, everybody is entitled to their opinion, I was merely wondering why you had this opinion about the systems and cockpit of the Airbus. I still don't agree with you but since that's your opinion that is of no consequence.
