Hi everyone. I drove out to MCO today to show around a fellow Orlando photographer my top spots at MCO to shoot from when I saw an Alitalia 777 parked at gate 27! I was really surprised and excited to see this! I got a few shots but the wx was sh*t today. Anyone known what it came?

Diversion from 14JAN. Originally scheduled as AZ636 MXP MIA.

It was supposed to be sent down to MIA today for AZ637. The diversion resulted in AZ cancelling AZ636 today, AZ637 yesterday.

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Was it a WX diversion? Thanks for the info!

My shot of it:

The gate was docked to it so I couldn't get a good full shot of it. Thanks so much again!

Yes it was and then I believe the crew timed out or something. I don't have all the details.

What kind of diversion, and why to MCO??

That would be the 2nd time that I know Alitalia has been at MCO. I saw a 747 in the mid-90's on approach to runway 17 and I remember that the day was overcast also.

That spot that Justin shot the picture from makes for a nice view but I wouldn't stand there in the open for too long since the MCO authhorities are understood to not be very photographer-friendly as of late.

Mario, Vh320 and I sat stood by the edge of that garage (level 3, Side A) for over an hour waiting for that thing to leave. Several MCO people drove by but nobody said anything. MCO is tough, but not impossible.

When I first saw the headline I immediately thought that it was a weather diversion at MIA. The front stalled out after it passed Orlando and I think created all day thunderstorms at MIA yesterday.

Probably was so overcast though you would have never seen it approach.

One thing I used to do when I lived by MCO was check flytecomm every morning when I got up just to see if anything cool was coming in. Thats how I found out about that An-225 that one time although they don't often list weather diversions until it is too late.

There probably were some AA diversions too yesterday, but unless they were something bigger than a 757 you probably wouldn't have noticed.

i saw the AZ bird in MCO as well as i was heading to the airport to work my flight to JFK yesterday. i was in shock though cause i know AZ doesn't have sked flts to MCO. what a sight though!!!  Big grin also a TransAt A330 was right next to it too...though i'm not sure if it was actually scheduled there or not. anyhow...great to see them there!

Hey there guys

Well the AZ 777 did divert to MCO due to WX along with VS 5 (744 G-VLIP)and a LTU A330. This was all in the early afternoon of January 14th. AZ was waiting for Gate 82 for about 30 mins and was unable to park there as VS 5 was occupying it. It then taxiied over to the westside for an international gate and had to wait for about 1 1/2 hours, and at this point the crew timed out. I saw it there on the 15th but I never saw today.

This also happened about 6 months ago aswell.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Crew of that AZ flight for choosing MCO as their alternate airport.

Regards
VSFT

Justin,

I was at that spot last week to get the CanJet 737, but I just parked and only went outside when the plane was leaving. Good to hear they didn't bother you guys. It's definitely not impossible  Big grin however not all shots are this easy lol.

B6FA,

The Air Transat A330 is scheduled.
