If you go to www.france2.fr and click on the 'video news' section, and then connect to the 17.Jan 20H bulletin (8pm today) about 9 minutes in to the clip there is some great footage of the A380, including some of people learning to fly in the simulator. Those massive LCD panels look superb!

The Airbus A380 which makes its first public appearance at Blagnac, close to Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) will be presented officially during a true show in front of a floor of 5.000 guests from all of Europe, of which include president Jacques Chirac and three chief of government (Blair, Schroeder, Zapatero).

I love how it took so long for a passenger A/C that exceeds the 747 in capacity to make it off of the production lines. Boeing monopoly (up till now) or not, it came out 30 years ago! Same goes for Concord. Beautiful machine, but we had planes like the SR-71/A-12 and the B-58 or how about the Valkyrie? No offence to any of ya, but Im not impressed with this roll-out.

indeed Eg777er, by the very same logic Citjet uses to say Concorde was dethroned by several US built planes long ago, we can say the B747 was outclassed long ago too then, by the A-124 and even more so by the A-225.

Only 1 person is in the SR-71. I guess they'd be considered a pilot... But he/she doesn't need to entertain themselves given they'll be at their destination faster than a bullet would (Mach 3.2!). Nothing like the hour long commute across a continent!

Boeing had no real competitioner 30 years ago, except MDD. But MDD could not afford it to built a plane to complete with the 747.
US companies built great airplanes and most of the milestones in aviation industry are American products. We really love those birds mentioned above. It took the Europeans a while to catch up, but we made it.
It is really funny how you are such a spoil sports and don´t begrudge the Europeans their success. It sounds like a bad sports man and bad looser.
As a aviation enthusiasts I love great planes being developed whether it is in Toulouse or Seattle.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

You could have made your jealousy known in a bit more subtle, diplomatic and classy way, I suppose. No offence, but your comment above really makes you sound like a sore loser.

That was a silly post. The B-58 and Valkyrie we're essentially failures, the B-58 had piss poor range and was soon retired, the XB-70 never made it past the 2 prototype stage because of advancements in Soviet fighters and SAMs.
You must not be much of an aviation enthusiast if you're not excited by the A380. It's a great accomplishment and I look forward to it's first flight.
