This Saab 2000, although now reregistered N508RH belongs to Hendrick Motorsports (Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte, Kyle Busch) is parked by the Jet Center and probably will be in and out of DAB a lot up until the Daytona 500 where probably one of its two sister ships will join it for the big race. I believe these are the only existing Saab 2000s in the USA although they are in corporate layout. They are all ex General Motors Saab 2000s.

This ex MGM Grand Air 727 has been in and out of DAB lately too. I saw it depart DAB Monday (with team members boarding through tail stairs). It was back as of last night and parked near the "international terminal". This plane is owned by Jack Roush of Roush Racing (Mark Martin).

Jack Roush's own plane was parked at Jet Center also in which he probably piloted himself

In addition there were other unusual for DAB aircraft parked at Yelvington and Jet Center- Joe Gibbs Gulfstream 1, a few other NASCAR owned B1900s and King Air 100s,200s as well as several lears and citations of various types.

Also, last but not least, as of yesterday there were FIVE Emb 120s on DAB premises. Three were at Yelvington

One of Everham's:

There's something like 3 days of testing going on at the speedway right now, based on where teams finished in points last season (even/odd, I forget which), in preparation for the 500. There were similar test sessions this time last week for the opposite group.

The next sessions for the Cup cars should be during Speed Weeks, which I believe, starts the weekend of February 5 and 6 with the 24-hour race. The 500 is February 20.

I saw a lot of the same aircraft there a week ago. One of the Hendrick Saab 2000s was there, the Roush 727 and the E120s. The Penske Challenger 800 (corporate CRJ100) was also there.

Oddly there aren't and weren't a lot of lears and citations and kingairs these past two weeks, there were a few ( i estimate about 4-5 kingairs, 2-3 lears and citations) but it appears that the drivers mostly arrived in the team aircraft rather than their individual aircraft as compared to the Pepsi 400 where the King Air and Lear were the official planes of NASCAR it seemed.

They actually have been testing all weekend, all yesterday and they are doing it right now. I live 3 miles from the track and I can hear them.

Unfortunately i didnt get to see any of them arrive yesterday since the wind is from the east like it is 80% of the time here and they arrived on Runway 7L. Hopefully when it is time for them to depart there will still be an east wind.

When I went to Riddle back in the early 80's, I remember one cold mid-day taking my lunch break from my job at the Volusia Mall, and taking my lunch over to the grandstands at the speedway watching the practice session. Looked odd seeing all those cars practicing at 200 mph+ (in the days before restrictor plates) around the track in colors that were no more than primer gray and their car number.

It is night time, but I happened to see a CRJ just come into DAB about 9:30ish (i could tell by the sound and lights). There are no scheduled CRJ flights at this time which makes me think it is the Penske shuttle jet which was here last week.

Hlywd..

To answer your questions....

Yes, as of 'right now' those are the only 3 Saab 2000 here in the US. Yes, they are the former GM aircraft. I heard they have removed the corporate interior and installed a regular pax interior.

I missed the chance to photograph both DEi -120's a few months ago when both where sitting on our ramp, along with Bill Davis-120.

I wish I had a decent camera so I could get sme pictures of them. I wouldn't even need that much of a telephoto for pictures of Davis and DEI's E120s from Embry Riddle's west lot.

I believe a few other NASCAR aircraft came in tonight too between 9p-10p.

There was what appeared to be an MU-2, most likely Bobby Hamilton's
as well as what appeared to be a King Air 200-300, a Lear and maybe a Citation of some sort.

HlywdCatft,

N500PR Penske Racing CRJ landed at 9:42pm after a blocked Hawker, both from JQF...

N999WE CJ2 was in earlier in the evening and is based at JQF as well. Could be related to Carl Edwards, driver of the #99 (Fill in a sponsor here-he has numerous in 2005!) Ford Taurus...

Dale Jr.'s Lear 60 isn't readily apparent from the latest transactions in the Jan. Aviation Letter...and it wouldn't be down here this week as he tested last week.

The Hawker could be Gordon's, it was here a few days ago. Could I ask where you got the information on the Penske flight? I can't get that on regular flight trackers at least Flytecomm or Flight arrivals. I asked this same question on the flight trackers. I was hoping to find out when the drivers were coming in. I have one of those less common days when the winds are out of the west at DAB and I can see everything coming in.

I saw RCR Racings Hawker N3RC parked at Yelvington, maybe thats what you saw last night which is most likely the one that came from JQF. There were two other Hawkers on the premises, one was one of the new 800XPs that belong to NASCAR Inc. and that came in this morning, the other belongs to Cracker Barrell restaurants

Jeff Burton's CJ is now there N99JB as well as N4MM Morgan McClure.

Any idea about these planes?

N213CF Citation 550 Hudson C. Fred Iil from Connelly Springs NC
N194TR Beech 200 Tony Greene and Assoc Llc Boone NC

both were parked at Jet Center, may be NASCAR related (maybe because they are from NC)

Hey Tom in NO: I too went to Riddle in the early 80's. I flew out of DAB during the holidays, and on several occasions departed on an Eastern L1011 painted up in full Air Canada colors which was leased to EAL!

A340Spotter, N999WE is Bill Elliott

Dale Jr's new LJ was previously owned by NASCAR. Problem is I haven't figured out which one. My gut feeling says it's N702R S/N 113. This one is still listed for sale, but is now in the hands of Raytheon. Probably a NASCAR trade-in for one of their new Hawkers. N809R appears to already have a new owner and I don't see where N306R & N900R are for sale.

B764,

Yeah, that's correct about N999WE, I forgot about Bill's addition. He was down there testing the #39 Dodge for Ganassi Racing, which will be painted up in 1985 Coor's colors for the Daytona Shootout! Cool! And yes, Ganassi Racing, not Evernham...not sure what this is all about, but he's still committed to running 12 races for Evernham with Stanley and Auto Value sponsorship.

N306R is with Raytheon, traded in for N800R, cn 258694...N900R is a Lear 31 so it's definitely not that one for Junior.

HlywdCatft, I use Red1 Aviation's tracking service. It's text only, not like Flight Explorer, and it has a historical feature that can track planes that landed during a previous day, hour or even 6 months back. www.red1aviation.com will get you there...

Referencing the 2 planes you listed, no tie-up to NASCAR quite yet.

Add-on to pass along:
N12RA Mu-2 is Bobby Hamilton Jr., driver #32 Tide Chevy

I'll be passing thru there on or around the 5th on my way up to the Super Bowl for spotting by the way...probably my only appearance during SpeedWeeks.

Cheers
Jeffrey

I just got back in town late tonight. It was too dark when I got back, didnt get a chance to drive by DAB to see what was there. Last saturday there was hardly anything, I am assuming the same today. They seem to arrive on Tues/Wed a lot then leave before Saturday.

I haven't seen any of the E120s or the Saab 2000 flying yet, just happen to see them parked at DAB. Like I mentioned before my office window faces the approach to 25R at DAB, but seems like the days when the planes arrive they are using 7L. When it comes time for them to depart the wind shifts and they depart on 25R so I never see them in action with exception of the Roush 727 which I saw take off last monday and a few night arrives, one of those the Penske CRJ.

I am glad I got the redone aviation site to work now.

Its cool, at least if I have question about a certain flight i saw I can now look it up for information. I just wish there was something that would tell me what was coming into DAB so I knew when a lot of them were due to arrive.

Add Beech 200s N258AG (Eagle Aviation LLC) and N101CS (Profile Aviation Services) to the NASCAR Airforce List. Both just took off from DAB and are JQF bound where the majority of NASCAR aircraft stay.

I finally saw Joe Gibbs G159 take off (well first time since Pepsi 400)

Speedway Inc. appears to be shuttling drivers back and forth between DAB and JQF- their C650 and one of their HS800XP seem to be making a lot of back and forth trips.

Are there anymore tests at Daytona coming up? A bunch of the planes took off yesterday afternoon/evening. I would assume just about all of them are gone and I haven't heard anyone at the track. Will they be coming later this week? The last couple weeks they been arriving on monday night.

HlywdCatft,

Next up at the track is the 24Hrs. of Daytona, the weekend of the 5-6th of February, perfectly timed with that other big sporting event in Jacksonville!
Hotels are hard to come by I've found anywhere north of Orlando...There are 18 NASCAR drivers planning to run in this race so expect SOME bizjet traffic, but not a ton...

My wife, baby girl and I will be staying in Daytona those nights as I'll be spotting up at JAX/VQQ/CRG on Super Bowl Sunday and then enjoying the beach on Monday...Maybe we can meet up briefly...

Cheers!

What do you expect to see up in the JAcksonville area in terms of flights? I am sure the Eagles and the Patriots will probably be flying in on at least 767s, they'll probably charter another plane for each of those cities fans. I am sure a ton of rich guys will be flying in their private jets too.

Do you think any Superbowl traffic will fly as far south as DAB?

As far as NASCAR, would you expect some of the bigger team planes like Roush 727, Hendrick S2000 or the E120s or more along the lines of the smaller aircraft like King Airs and Lears etc?
