Delta has 47 additional scheduled flights during the 2 days prior and 2 days after the Super Bowl. Nothing will be smaller than a 757 to ATL and most of the originally scheduled ATL flights have been upgraded to a 767-400. None of the other cities flights have been upgraded yet.
I am not certain what other airlines are doing, but once the teams have been established there will be additional charter flights added and you will likely see 747's and such.

Delta's running 22 flights on that Monday up to ATL, 11 757s, 1 767-200, 7 767-300s, and 3 767-400s. This is 10 more flights than normal (normally, it's 3 757s, 1 767, 7 763s). CVG is seeing no increase in traffic (still 2 737-200s, 2 CRJs, 2 CR7s).

Im not a big football fan but I read one of the teams charters a Hawaiian 767.

That would be super interesting to see at JAX but I doubt thats one of the 2 teams in the superbowl.

The HA 767 is operated for the Oakland Raiders, I saw it in IND when they played the Colts this fall. The Raiders were 5-11 and needless to say didn't make the playoffs.

Haha, I'm off my 7 day banning now...just in time to respond to a good thread.

I work part time at an airport in Jacksonville, Cecil Field...it's not a commercial field by any means, mostly military stuff.....but we're expecting about 300 aircraft in for superbowl. I took a look at the reservations stack the other day, it's going to be a TON of Cessna Citations, Hawkers, Falcons, BBJ's, CRJ's, 727's, etc. We don't have the capability to support large aircraft that require airstairs/GPU/Huffer, but anything with airstairs is pretty much fair game. We kept getting calls from people asking if we can take a DC-10 and a 757...I wish!

But anyways, it's going to be mad busy for a week, and we expect the reservations to relly flood in after tonight, because we'll know who's playing in the Bowl.

Very awesome. Thx for all the replys.

I hope I get to see some charted 747s in Jax! That would be so awesome!!!

What team would be big enough to need a whole 747, though???

CO has a LGA-JAX flight on Sat. and a JAX-LGA flight on Mon. They will service JAX with a 735 both ways.
Where will DL obtain all the gate space needed for the extra flights??? I think it is great for them to be able to add so many frequencies - Hopefully it will be very lucrative for them!

They are converting a Cargo building into a makeshift terminal for some of the flights. DL will have ticket counters and kiosks for checking in the passengers. You see a similar setup curbside in the South Terminal in ATL while they are building the TSA screening facility underground. These flights are in cooperation with the cruise ship companies that will be donating their cruise ships as hotels during the game. For a percentage of the Super Bowl traffic will all have one package including transportation by bus to/from the hotel (Cruise Ship) to the airport. These folks are some of the ones that will be using the makeshift terminal. Only the normal daily ops will use Concourse A in JAX.

I thought PHL used NW. Probably will be a 747-200. I know the Patriots will be a 763 assuming they hold on here.

The Eagles do use NW, and I'd say its a fairly safe bet that they will get a 742 for the trip to JAX...

The Pats flew a Delta 764 to PIT for tonight's game. During the regular season they fly from PVD since it's closer to Foxboro than Boston is. For the past few Super Bowls the Pats have flown in/out of BOS. Expect a couple DL 764's from the Pats.

For the Super Bowl last year, the Pats used 3 or 4 Delta 767-400s. Back in 2002, when the Pats had NW, they used 3 NW DC-10-30s (could help for an Eagles reference, but different teams have different requirements).

Eagles will probably arrive in a NW 757, New England in a DL 763, and the family charter flights will get the biggest equipment the airline has to offer. Both teams are East Coast so I wouldn't expect 747 or 777-size aircraft for the players on such a short flight.

Delta is also adding 738 equipment to JFK and LGA. I believe 3 flights throughout the day. The attempt is to depart a company plane every 45 minutes. Many flights will be using the cargo building, and I wouldnt be surprised if a couple of planes end up at the end of Concourse B where the groundside commuter gates are with mobile stairs attached to them. This is certainly a good time to have Gate A1 back, now that the TSA finally got the single checkpoint. They took A1 away from Delta because they needed the space for a checkpoint around 2002.

I remember that I worked in JAX when the SuperBowl was awarded a couple years ago. I told my supervisor, "I sure hope I'm not here when that happens." Fortunately, I am in ATL now. And guess who is NOT going to JAX for temporary duty work? lol Actually, it shouldn't be that bad. After all, most of the extra sections will be over at the freight terminal and maybe over by Signature(formerly AirKaman) FBO.

Does anyone have any info on which charter airlines will be flying from BOS for the Super Bowl? I got tickets to the game and I am flying to JAX on a charter flight on Friday. I still don't know which airline will be operating the flight.

What are you basing that on? I would expect the teams to fly the same size aircraft they flew all year long, if not bigger. You have to remember these teams travel with ALOT of gear. It's not just players. If the Eagles did indeed use a NW 742 this year, I would expect them to fly the 742 at the very least. And you know after the players fill they're seats, they're families and the press will occupy whatever seats are left. Should be interesting to find out which planes they use, though.

Ren41,

Last year, at HOU, the Patriots fans came in on a 757 charter by TransMeridian. I believe it was the TravelSpan one if my mind serves me. 757s were also operated as charters by Ryan (the Rubloff colored one), Pace (the Hooters one-IAH) while 727s from Champion Air showed up as well.
Congrats on getting tix to the game, enjoy it!

777gk, wondering if you had my name on your release this past week, anyway, you'd be surprised how sometimes short hops even require the big planes as the equipment upload is what causes the need. I remember during preseason this year, Tampa Bay had a 757-300 of NW (correct me here) for their game at Jacksonville! Philly could have a 747-200 if family members fly with the team instead of coming down on a later charter. Should see the teams fly there pretty soon as they need to be there for media day which is Tuesday if I remember right.

DeltaGuy, good you're back, expect an email from me as I'll be at Cecil on Super Bowl Sunday jotting down the numbers and hopefully taking some pics. Should be an impressive lineup there!

Let me know if you need/wouldn't mind any company on Sunday at Cecil....

as far as Delta flights into JAX, it looks like on Feb 3-4 we'll be getting a flight from ATL every 40 minutes, with nothing smaller than a 757 (a few 764s in the mix too)
