Geneva Airport has been closed since this morning due to heavy snow falls. This is the first time since 1985 that the airport has had to close like this. If possible, passengers were sent by train to ZRH where flights are still operating normally.
The charter flights should operate tomorrow, and the airport could reopen at 4pm today.

It looks as if the weather forecast is just as bad for tomorrow with snow falls all day, lows of -11°C and constant wind at 20km/h with gusts reaching up to 55km/h.
The main reason that the airport was closed today was due to the fact that the runway and taxiways were very slippery, although the snow was a contributing factor. So perhaps the airport will have similar events tomorrow.

It affected me today. Flight from LTN to AMS was to be handled by the incoming flight from GVA. The plane to be used for the outbound GVA flight was used for mine instead. There was a group of girls in LTN this morning talking about going somewhere else and getting a coach to take them to Geneva. Guess a Coach would have a hard time in that mess too.
An article in the local paper talking about the whole day.
-30000 people were booked on flights today in and out of Geneva
-150 buses of British skiers were blocked in France in order to not have a traffic jam at the airport.
-160 flights cancelled
-15cm of snow, representing a total area of 450000m2 to clear up.
-The clearing operations started at 4am, using 200 people and 54 vehicles.
