Even though i live in Indianapolis, i for some reason cannot seem to find out if the new tower is operational yet. I drove by it and it looks done. From what i understand, they cannot begin construction of the midfield terminal until the new tower is up and running. Anyone have any info? thanks  Smile

I don't think it has gone live yet. I talked to a friend of mine a few weeks ago who works out at Fedex and he says the new center isn't online. I thought it was supposed to go online in March. But I might be confusing that date with something else.

It should be sometime soon. I remember hearing that it was 2005 when the tower was going to come on line.

I was also looking at an overview of the airport and it looks like if they want to add new gates in the interim they can add either an extension off of A-2 with some makeshift gates; they can add one in between concourses A and B (right off the security area); or just use remote stands. It does not make sense spending a lot of money on extending any concourses.

To my knowledge it isnt. I know for a fact that the contractors are still in the process of laying the wiring to direct connect the tower to FX's dispatch center. The heavy snow slowed them down, as of right now about 4 more weeks until that is done.

The first thing that will go up is trailer city. Not to be confused with Jeffersonville, IN  Smile/happy/getting dizzy. I'm sure they can put that up before the new tower goes live.

It looks like the land has been "graded" and is ready.

I haven't been able to get a look at the work in a few months. Have you seen it recently or just what they have on the website? I was there recently but the weather was nasty. It was very overcast and the windchills were horrible. I didn't stay outside long enough to try and look.

7e72004....would you care to expand on the comment about "get it down so we can get real construction going?" Are you saying the construction workers are lazy? What exactly do you mean?

I am meaning let's get it done so we may get started on the actual terminal building. I am not saying they are lazy.

Construction was deliberately slowed down at the request of the airlines. Not quite sure if that was the smartest idea. Would it be wise to do a rapid build on the terminal and try and get it open in 2007 instead of 2008? They managed to get the road work done 2 years early. Why drag out the terminal project any longer?

I was just thinking of that...they got the "moving the interstate" done early, from what the web page said, the tower is supposed to be operational by mid-2005 and construction will start right after.

What I think is amazing is that the airport construction got delayed by a year pretty much because TZ requested it. Now they won't even be part of the picture with only 4 daily flights.

Yeah...i think the original opening date of the new terminal was supposed to be 7/7/07; that would have been nice. Either way, i think other airlines will come in and pick up some of the slack. I would not expect a full barage of flights to be added because there is excess capacity but who knows.
