I have read in a.net many times that the Mexico-Argentina bilateral allows one airline from each country to operate 5 weekly flights between MEX and EZE.

However, today is the second time I see a MX newspaper ad about its flights to EZE that claims that the service is offered 6x weekly. The ad literally says "... directo a Buenos Aires 6 veces a la semana, volando en el cómodo y espectacular Boeing 767 de la flota más moderna del mundo...".

So I was not content with the ad and I conducted a search for flights in MX's website during the first full week of February (Monday 7 through Sunday 13) and I got confirmation that the flight is available 134567.

Can anyone confirm if the bilateral has been amended or if MX is operating the sixth frequency under a special waiver or something?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Hello Eddiedude,

I do not know in this particular case, but in Argentina special waivers, for example extra frequencies subject to later aproval, are often granted. So the sixth Mexicana flight may be the case.

Greetings,

Lima

Eddie:

The sched is right, and about the waiver, that´s why you don´t always see MX1691, you also se MX5691 (and MX1692, MX1690, MX5692 on the return flight), sometimes is about the number of flights you operate, in this case, there are 2 flights MEX-EZE (despite the fact that really is the same flight), and like lima said, extra flights requires extra aproval.

I assume that they're doing quite well with the load factors since they are now up to more than the same frequencies they were flying before the Argentine crisis. They did a great job of repositioning themselves in the market, after they stopped serving the destination completely leaving all the South American carriers to benefit from the unserved market.

Aerolineas Argentinas will further stimulate the market allowing for ticket prices to drop dramatically.

Thanks for the info guys. I hope the schedule is maintained at least at 6 weekly frequencies.

About the prices, MX is advertising, for most of 2005, a roundtrip fare of $699 U.S., which in my opinion is attractive. Let's see if fares can go any lower than that.

EddieDude... last week I bought two rountrips tickets to EZE (from MEX) for travelling between march 20th & 31th... MX was asking for almost US$ 1,000 for each one, AR asked for US$ 575.30 for the same... you can guess why I bought the AR ones!!!!!!!.

Best regards.

What probably screwed you is the "Semana Santa" period. Some airlines really increase their fares during such holidays. But the $699 fare return is very much publicized in newspapers, so probably you could have gotten such fare for other dates.

Have a great trip to Argentina and post a trip report when you return so that we can all read about the new AR service. Tell us how long the stopover in LIM is, whether you need to leave the aircraft at LIM and, of course, tell us all about the A310, about the service, the meals, the seat pitch, the IFE, the beauty of the Argentine flight attendants (my God are Argentine women beautiful!!!) and any other details you can provide.

Best.

I did knew since the beginning of January that MX was increasing to 6X and at the same time they are now dropping LAX service with B763ER. So instead of having MXB resting on 3 we will now have it on Tuesday's. Not a bad decision! Glad to know MX continue expanding. A shame the second B767 hasn't arrived while still listen the rumors of transferring MXB to AM.

As for the bilateral agreement from Mexico with Argentina, Surprise surprise!Last year that I checked: http://www.sre.gob.mx/ and I swear I read the 5 frequency limit... well, guess what? That part of the text has been now removed. From what I now understand is that there will be no longer restrictions of frequencies as long as both countries FAA agrees and give full approval of new airlines, flights or frequencies.

N405MX, is MX still flying 2X to EZE on 4 and 6 with B757 from CUN?

Hola!

MX 6th frequency is operated as a special flight, and should be seasonal until bilaterals are modified. Bilaterals still give 5 weekly frequnecies to each country. Not strange to see MX5692 operating for months or years. BIlaterals are not easily modified.

Waivers are common in Argentina. AV received a waiver for 4 months (DEC 2004 - MAR 2005) to add to the authorised 4 weekly frequencies, 3 additional flights to fly daily to EZE.

Saludos

Ghost:

A 767 (all white) has been sitting for a while in MX's hangar. Is it supposed to be for MX? Or is it in a heavy maintenance for a third party? It's been there for at least two months!!

Jopavon, a lot of 767´s have been parked in MX base and no one for us, but if i know something i´ll post it here for the fleet.

Ghost, about the flight with the 757, not any more, sometimes depends on the load factor, they send the 757 via PTY or direct, when the aircraft is able to do it, but i´ll check more details for that flight

Argentina,

Sure not easy to sign a new agreement, in fact in Mexico's Secretary of External Relations website, if you do a search it appears the exact same agreement from 1996 I saw months ago but with a missing part! Odd!

Jopavon,

The whitie B763 belongs to AWAS. I don't remember the registration nor who the last operator. But at the beggining of December it was due for a French operator. At the end it was not taken up by the French operator. It now sits awaitings its fate with a fresh C or D check and ready for someone to take it.
