The lastest news out of ROC is that USAirways ramp personal will be replaced by contract employees. The company of the contract employees has not yet been known, but I have heard from numerous sources that this will happen. Its sad if it does happen but it will just be another cost saving measure to save the airline. I have also heard that the USAirways employees will have the option to take a plea bargain, move to another city, or work for the contract employer (at a much less hourly pay). Can anyone confirm this, or anyone know if this is happening in other cities?

Per the most recent IAM-Fleet Service contract, the company may outsource Fleet Service work at stations with less than 69 weekly mainline departures.
Mainline stations eligible to be outsourced are ALB, ATL, BNA, CHS, DEN, DTW, GSO, IAD, IAH, ILM, MCI, MDT, MSP, MYR, ORF, PHX, RIC, ROC, SAN, SEA, SYR. Also, current Mainline Express stations may also be outsourced.
Note that this is for IAM-Fleet Service work only. The CWA was able to maintain better scope provisions for its work.
Affected employees will be eligible to exercise their seniority to move to another city. If they do not choose to do that, they will be eligible for severance pay, health insurance, and travel benefits, depending on seniority.
I would assume that the contract employers would generally be open to hiring ex-US Airways employees, but that's not in the contract.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.
