There are 4 or 5 threads currently running with 787 in the title. WHY???? Has Boeing changed the name? If not, why are people doing this?

 Confused

Boeing home page still refers to it as the 7E7 Dreamliner. When did this change happen?

It was announced a few days ago the "7E7" would now be the "787". Boeing said they wanted to wait until the recived orderd from the Chinese airline or something like that to change it.

I know that the number 8 is lucky in Chinese culture. I wonder if changing the name and announcing the order on the same day are directly related. Any Feng Shui experts out there?  Big grin

On the other hand, I am glad they are finally calling it the 787. Call me a traditionalist but I never warmed up to the 7E7 name.

Yes, DAirbus, the two are related. Boeing executives publicly announced that the change is to 'honor and celebrate the Chinese order' or something to that effect.

I'm glad she finally got a proper name. I hope they ditch the "Dreamliner" term completely. This isn't Toys'R'us.

According to the vote distribution, the Dreamliner name won the vote because of overwhelming European support for the name. So there is where the blame lies
