I was looking through some old stuff of my grandparents today and I found some old tickets from when they went to London back in 1988. They flew on Delta flights 36 and 37 from Cincinnati to London-Gatwick. I was just curious as to which aircraft they might have flown on or if there was a way to find out. I can't ask them because he's dead and she's got alzheimers so bad she can't even remember how to walk anymore. Any help is appreciated.

They would have been on an L1011, probably a 250 series. Don't have the schedule in front of me tho.

My guess: an L1011, either -200 or -500.
Here is a 1987 photo at Gatwick (same time frame of interest):

It would have been the L-1011 for sure, but not sure the exact type.
Delta didn't have anything else in the fleet capable of making this trip back then. The 767s were not flying trans-Atlantic at that time...

Hey, in case you are still trying to get some specifics. . .
I just found this on ebay. In the purchase, you'll have a DL timetable from 1988. It'll get you even closer. . .but set you back a few bucks for such a small bit of info.

Definitely an L1011, for absolute certain. I flew on those exact services a good number of times from 1988 until mid-1991, and the type was always a TriStar 200 or 250.
I don't think Delta ever used series 500s on the CVG-LGW run (barring equipment substitutions), although once or twice I did notice 500s on the ramp at LGW. Either way, it's beyond question that until the 1990s the only basic type Delta ever used on UK flights, whether from ATL or CVG, was the L-1011 TriStar.
If you tell us the seat allocations, it might at least be possible to settle whether the particular TrisStars they flew on were short-body 500s or one of the standard-body models.
There's a faint chance I might actually have been on one or other of the flights your grandparents took, JetJock22. Like many of us, I have all my flights recorded. It's a stunningly long shot, but it might be worth telling us the precise dates... Who knows? Maybe I could clear this up for you, real pronto!
