This tender http://mmd.airindia.co.in/aimmd/tender/P%20TO%20F%20-%20A3100.html

has been issued it was listed as Passenger-to-Freighter Conversion of A310-304 Aircraft

This must mean that AI is looking to convert some of its A310s into freighters.

very true! as of now AI does not have any dedicated freighters, hence miniscule market share as far as freight traffic is concerned. Understandably, in a developing market freight is equally if not more important as pax traffic.

A310 shall be an obvious choice over B742 as a freighter, as it still quite uncertain how much initial load they'll get.

Yes it definitely means that AI will be converting two of their A310s namely VT-EQS (cn538) delivered on 24/08/1990 (Krishna) and VT-EQT (cn544) delivered on 30/08/1990 (Narmada)

Here are the two aircraft due to be converted.

IMO European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) & Flight Structures, Inc are the two companies who are currently involved in the conversion of A310s.

Seems to be a good move.

SHouldnt AI convert their oldest frames first? I mean these 1990 deliveries?

This conversion idea seems to be a good idea though! COnsidering that more and more passengers are choosing to shift their loyalties from Air India, its good that they are looking for alternate revenue options!
