AA BOS-MAN: Stopped?!

Is it really true? i have not seen a photo of an AA Boeing 757 in MAN for months! And when I tried to see if a such a flight existed on the AA website, I found nothing. Has AA stopped BOS-MAN? Did it do poorly?

BOS-MAN was only ever intended to be summer only. For the winter American have started a seasonal MIA-MAN route with the B767. BOS-MAN is due to return in the summer on the B757 again.

It did excellently. It finished at the end of October.

MAN-BOS was originally timetabled as a seasonal service, summer only. It is back for next summer and will probably go year round. Loads were in excess of 95% and can safely be described as a success for AA.

Unfortunately fleet planning isn't an instant issue and tickets were only sold up until the end of October, so the MAN-MIA service took the slot at MAN T3. That finishes in the spring and MAN-BOS starts again.

MAN-MIA has been renewed for 2005-2006 using a 767, but this would not preclude AA using a 757 for year-round BOS service as well. aa.com is selling tickets for these services now.

Thanks Crosswind and MAd Hatter for clearing this issue up. I look forward to seeing their 757s cross the Atlantic again in the summertime. So this means that when the BOS-MAN returns, the MIA-MAN route ends? That seems kind of strange that AA would end MIA-MAN...is it really that hard to profit on both routes at the same time?

MAN-MIA caters for winter traffic when Brits head south for the sun. Just look at the traffic into Orlando. There isn't quite as much in the summer when closer destinations are warmer.

Expect both routes to be operating next winter. AA like the cash they have made from MAN-BOS in the summer, and route profiling has indicated that it would not just be holiday traffic in the warm months.

BOS-GLA might not be able to support itself, but there are feeder services to do the route GLA-MAN-BOS seamlessly through MAN T3. If you haven't used MAN to transit then you won't know just how comfortable and easy that is. T3 is a compact and very modern terminal to change flights in.

I've flown through MAN once, around 4 years ago (connecting from GLA to NCE if I remember well). Yes, yt was pretty straightfoward, as far as I remember.

The BA services carry AA codeshare flight numbers. BA might prefer to route the passenger via LHR but booking with AA would access a GLA-MAN sector operated by BA with an AA flight number.

T3 is a reasonably busy terminal, and both flights operate from there. Nothing like the hell of LHR as T3 at MAN is compact and easy on the legs. OneWorld is being concentrated at T3.

Oh, tell me about it. I flew through LHR last weekend, after a couple of years of avoiding LHR, and it's still the bloody mess that I remember.

NWA operated this route a few years ago with the DC-10, the route was very successful until KLM decided to route all european pax via AMS.

Hopefully AA or NWA will commence the service in 2006.

As GLA GAZ states above GLA-BOS was a successful operation for years on the much larger 2 class DC-10 before NW and KLM decided to route their transatlantic traffic through AMS.

I don't see why AA couldn't fill the much smaller 1 class 757.

Us guys up here in Glasgow understand how frustrating it is for you in Mancherster to keep hearing that most of the demand is in London and that Manchester couldn't support more long haul flights.

Your comments above re GLA-BOS routing through MAN are just as sensitive.

AA operates #6680, JFK-MAN, 762; #54 ORD-MAN, 763, and #158 MIA-MAN,763. This is why you saw three AA 763 take off.

AA #6680 is a BA operated flight, they just code share on it, so it could not have been the third AA 763 you saw. If anything, the third 763 was probably a diversion of another AA flight bound for mainland Europe.

Having flown with AA on MAN-BOS in July and MAN-MIA in January I can tell you that both flights were over 80% full. I think AA could easily fly the BOS route year-round and maybe so with the MIA route within the next year or two. I think both would continue to prove popular.

You don't normally get 3 AA 763s into MAN. I'm sure it was a day in October. My dad keeps a notebook with the registrations in but I can't find anything in there so it must have been a day when I had gone across on my own. I was expecting to see one 763 on the ORD run, which has been doing it for years and a 752 on the BOS run. I was wanting a photo of the AA 752, as obviously it is something of a rarity over here. I was a bit disappointed to see the second 763, but surprised to see a third. Maybe one had gone tech or something the day before???
