Hello everyone ,

I am writing on behalf of a friend of mine who is half swiss/half somali. Since his mother deceased when he was only a small child he practically lost all contact in that country. He recently got in touch with relatives in Somalia and would like to fly there. However, the problem, is that over the internet we found traces of NO flights to Mogadishu . Apparently Mogadish airport is only for the few UN and NGO gonveys left

Can you help him get from GVA to Muqdishu,

Thank you

I believe the only carrier operating scheduled flights to Mogadishu is Daallo Airlines.

They have two four weekly flights from Djibouti to Mogadishu and a weekly flight between Nairobi and Mogadishu.

They are operating a single An-24 (dry-leased from Tajikistan Airlines) and a Il-18 (wet-leased from Phoenix Aviation).

website is http://www.daallo.com

Daallo flies to MGQ from DXB too. They operate a 737-200. Looks very old and tired to me.
Or you could try Jubba again from DXB. They operate IL18. Lots of transfer pax on that from AMS/CDG/ZRH.

RootsAir, be sure to tell your friend to take extra steps to secure his belongings when travelling to Somalia. Multiple roadblocks along the city are set up and the only way to get through is by paying up, and the price goes up if you come from a foreign country. He should especially be careful with his passport. I have heard of people going to Nairobi, dropping off their passports with relatives and making the trip to Somalia from there, just to be safe.

Daallo offers NBO-MGQ.

Not to get off topic, but Somalia looks like a hell of a lot of fun!

Mogadishu looks so nice, that I think we should organise the next airliners.net meet there. How about it?

I guess Mogadishu is quite the experience.

Somalialand and Puntland in the north of Somalia are fine though.

Thomas

I think this would be the safest part of your journey by far.

Where are you going in Somalia? Ethiopian flies to Hargeisa regularly.

MaverickM11,

Hargeisa is the capital of Somaliland which seceded from Somalia in 1991 followign the fall of Siad Barre's regime.

While it is not internationally recognized, it's been a separate country since 1991.

His destination is probably Mogadishu.

I think it time that Somalia received some help. Its also time Somalia had its own national airline to offer regional/international flights with reasonably reliable and safe, second hand aircraft.
