Looking at the database, some cool pics from MRU. It seems to be a big market from Europe. I have done some more research, and am definitely making it a priority vacation destination. Wow. Anyone been? What about Air Mauritius? Thanks.

What about Air Mauritius?
You want to fly them ? Better not !
I have flown 20-year old DC10 from VIASA and their were in better conditions than the A340 from MK. OK, they have PTV, but not on demand. The service and the meals are horrible. And at the moment the also have huge problems with their on time performance.
The airport in MRU is small but nice. There are some streets around the runway and the taxiways so I guess there are some good sites for spotting. I haven't seen a terrace at the building itself.
I think most of the MK flights leave in the morning for their Europe-flights (if they are not delayed). This might be the best time to see some movement. Otherwise there is not a lot of traffic, some ATR, some 737 from Air Austral.
Don't go there in Summer because you might have a lot of rain ! - although Hotels are cheaper.

I've been there twice but that was a long time ago (1985 was the last time). It was a beautiful place with very friendly people. I have a feeling that things have developed quite a bit since I've been there, but I hope things haven't changed. The only Americans I met there were a couple of Navy guys that were on liberty from a ship docked in Port Louis. Lots of Europeans and South Africans though.

I have been there on Air Mauritius. On the way there we flew AMS > VIE on KLM and transit on MK VIE > MRU on a B767. Flightservice and food were good, delay was about 30 minutes and the flighttime +/- 11:00. On the way back MK MRU > CDG on a Airbus 340 and transit on AF to AMS (A320).
Both flights seem to have good planes with clean interiors and friendly service. The plane looked freshly painted, the tyres were in good shape etc.
MRU is a little bit a small airport and have just a few gates and just one runway. We had to back-track with the A340 and had a very, very long t/o run.

What about the island? I hear it is paradise, but I think the opinions are subjective. Anything not to be missed? Where is the best place to stay? It seems like such an interesting and out-of-the way place. Thanks.
