KLM is going to expand service to SFO from 6 flights per week using MD-11 aircraft to daily 777 service starting 27th of March.

Seat capacity increases from 1692 to 2289 seats a weak. That is an impressive increase. Looks like the SFO flights are popular!

Good news.

I always wondered why KL took such a long time to make the AMS-SFO-AMS daily.

Aren't they were already doing AMS-SFO with the B777?

A friend of mine travelled on that route last week and told me she flew on a 777.

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Yes, I frequently see the 777 at SFO though not as often as the MD-11.

Until the end of January KLM used the MD-11. Now they have six flights a week with B777. With the introduction of the summer schedule this will increase to a daily flight using B777. So, finally I wiil be able to fly 777.

I just booked a flight SFO-AMS in March on the 777! My first flight on a 777! I will return AMS-DTW-SFO to be able to fly three new types on my trip to The Netherlands, 777 (KLM), A330-300 and B757 (NWA)!
BTW, I already have flown NW DC-10 several times, so it is not that I do not want to fly old planes that I choose to fly this route.... Smile

Nice to see the ATW 2005 Airline of the Year growing! Here's another proof that the AF-KL merger is creating value for both parties.

KL schedules suprises me.

For instance, even on their AMS-NRT route, they were only to go 4x weekly til now because of rwy restrictions and they converted this route to a T7 from the B744 in order to go daily.

Irrelevant: I wonder what a T7 all the way from Europe would be like landing on a 2180 metre runway? My friend told me that his CX from HKG on an A333 made a very abrupt stop.

Well, I am glad KL is doing so well

Maybe now my dutch friends will stop the "this is the end of KLM" predictions. Despite general differences in culture, the work culture at KLM is actually much closes to the the new and improved work ethic at Air France. Remember, Air France pulled a stunning turn around in profitability during the last 3 years - most of that through very tight yield management and better matching of loads with flexible aircraft assignement - something both carriers do very very well. Who knows - this franco-dutch company just might be company others follow in the future.

It's been swell, but the swelling has gone down.

Its good news, but this is just the increase for the summer season. I have money on them going back to 5-6 weekly in Oct.

KLM has flown to NRT 6x weekly for some years now using combi/full pax 747's
Using the 777 is an increase in pax because 747 combi holds 278 and a 777 327. The increase in from 6 to 7 flights was installed last summer.

Excellent, I have some personal video footage of the KLM T777 taking off from RWY-1R.....what a BEAUTY!!!!

I eventually want to upload it to a personal website or to flightlevel350.com...I have a bunch of big birds taking off from RWY-1R...including BA, VS, and UA 744's......I doubt though we'll be seeing any A340's taking off from there (I never have). I think I might have once spotted KLM's MD-11 taking off from there....but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Can't even imagine the A380 taking off from there....that would be COOL..but I don't think it will be able to.....

Yes, the 777 has been coming almost daily for the last couple of weeks. It is a beautiful plane!!! I see it everyday coming home from work. It arrives about 1:45 pm and leaves about 3:45pm.

I have taken the MD-11 twice, which is a great plane - very powerful take-off and a great J class cabin up front with only 12 seats.

We look forward to the 777 next time we need to party in AMS!  Smile

This is nice, but it is nothing new. KLM usually increases service to SFO during the summer season with a 747-400. I guess they are starting a little bit earlier this year. It will be nice to see the new colored 777-200's here in the bay area.

I saw one on approach while at work on Monday, and it was right around 1:45. I didn't know that KLM had started 777 service to SFO so it was a nice surprise.

Coincidentally, SQ has also been flying some 777s into SFO lately, has that been going on for a while?

Cheers,
Jeff

It is not about the landing on the short runway as much as it is about the take off
