After looking through he photo database, I was unable to find any pictures of an NW Avro in the new color scheme. I think It would be very interesting to see. Does anyone know if they have an Avro in the new scheme?
By the way, I'll be taking my first Avro flight in March! I've read that they have one of the most comfortable coach products in the US.

Nope, none have been repainted, nor have any Saabs.
No word on when we may or may not see one of these repainted.

The leases begin to expire next year in 2006. It is still my guess that since NW has never painted an Avro (Bowling Shoe or Silver Bullet) that they wont go out of their way to paint any in the next twelve months. Although, I would be happy to be proven otherwise.

I haven't heard of any Avros being painted, but didn't a Saab go to the paint shop not all that long ago? I thought I saw another discussion about that.

I talked this past weekend face to face with a head guy at Mesaba. He said INDEED they are going to paint the Avros THIS YEAR. I believe he said it'd be toward the summer. I also work with an associate who also works at Mesaba, and was also able to confirm this information.
Unless they're feeding me BS which I doubt they would, get ready for some cool lookin' Avros!

Continental, I doubt they are feeding you BS, but the story has changed so many times on when the Arvo's & Saabs were to be repainted, you can't believe anything. First it was to be Oct' 04, then by year-end 2004, then Januarary.....so who knows.
Yes, there was a Saab that was to be repainted a few weeks ago, because of an AD related to the bonded primer and how the aircraft was repainted by a previous owner. Ship 106 went in for inspection and was to be repainted, when they stripped the paint they found significant corrosion, and being a 15 year-old A model, it was not economical to repair, and the aircraft was retired from service

Well, there *is* a line drawing of one on the fleet/seatmap page at NWA's website:
www.nwa.com/travel/trave/seatm/
Whereas the Saab drawing is still in the red & grey...

That guy at Mesaba also told me something of a Saab 340 that had something wrong with it. But he told me that they were able to send it to the manufacturer or something and they're getting a new one.

COntinental... when did you have an opportunity to talk with Spanjers and in what forum? Just curious. THe saabs when they're actually painted, will be in the silver NWA paint scheme.

They aren't replacing 106, now there are 63 Saab's in the XJ fleet.

Unfortunately, they don't make SF340's anymore so they are unable to trade in for a new one

Continental - you said you talked to a "head guy"... a "head guy" is John Spanjers. So - NO - actually, I wasn't being sarcastic. Who'd you talk to?

Well by head guy I didn't mean president. He said he works with the top guys at Mesaba, and the girl I work with who also works at Mesaba knew him the second he walked in. No I do not know his name, but I can ask. This is what I heard, so if you think I'm lying, well than you can keep thinking that.

I don't think you're lying Mr. Defensive! I'm just curious who you talked to in such a casual fashion. You obviously weren't at a BOD meeting, Analyst conference, SLT meeting or a dinner party at the guys house.

Well I felt as if extreme sarcasm were being used! This is what I heard directly from the guy who came into my work. We talked for about half an hour. This was my 3999 post, I need to find something good to waste 4k on!

Anybody willing to go with or against my theory? NW and XJ have never fully painted an Avro, the leases begin to end soon. Replacing before repainting.

Here is an artist's depiction of an avro in the new color scheme.
Hope to get to see one someday in real life.

the concept looks good except for the logo on the fuselage. it should have the smaller NWA above the windowline, with the red "Airlink" undreneath...like the CRJ.
I'm working on a couple of repaints for Microsoft Flight Sim of the Saab and Avro in the new colors. I'll post images....so at least we'll have a virtual plane painted.
But I would think that the Avros and the Saabs will both get painted soon. NW could be working on renegotiating the Avro leases, or deciding what to do with them. They could get replaced, who knows? But given current economics, how feasible would it be as of right now? Maybe in a few years.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.
