Thanks for the info Rob. Now that we know MX will be sold on its own and not merged with AM it'd be safe to say that MX will be a all-Airbus airline. Hopefully, the long-haul aircraft(s) that MX needs will be ordered soon.

Are MX's A318s in service yet? If so, where to? If not, when is their first revenue flight with MX?

I flew the MX A318 a couple of weeks ago!.. very nice..you normally wont notice the difference between the a318 and a319 unless you really pay attention to the back to notice less row of seats.
My question is, since the A318 are considered unprofitable because of the high CASM, why is MX getting them? apart from commonality, what it is the advantage?! (i dont want to hear that they were free or got 50% off)

They can use the A318 in low-density medium-long haul routes, like MEX-UIO-GYE, as they can send it in a domestic flight, or a mexican 3rd city-U.S.A. flight. In fact, the A318, having the A319 and A320, and soon A321, has a lot of advantages.
Good for MX!!!, in fact, they have right now the biggest A318/19/20/21 fleet in LatAm.

So far, it is not yet official that MX will go for A321's. Well maybe it is official, but it has not been officially announced yet. As for the A318's, they are used for flights to Ecuador, for the additional flights to YUL that MX is adding (so I heard) and maybe they are used for flights that have less pax than the A319's.
I think commonality and range are the main reasons why MX decided to get A318's.

EddieDude is right so as AM773, apart from the commonality, the aircraft serves very well low density medium-long haul routes, like UIO, GYE, ORD, YUL, YYZ, instead of taking an A320/319 with only 50 pax and losing some money, the A318 with the same 50 passengers makes money, and there are a lot of savings with the commonality of the fleet.
And for the A321 right now MX does not operate any, but there are supposed to arrive two in the next months.

Hi Logan, I would only like to say that YYZ and ORD don't seem to me like low density routes. Especially ORD which is served very well by MX sometimes with 752's.

Two second hand Airbus A321 are due for 1Q/05. They will be tested by the company. Now that some 757 are about to retire the fleet we will need something extra to fill the gap left by those B757.

I don't think they are adequate airplanes for flights such as MEX-ORD and MEX-LAX because of the altitude of MEX. I guess they will be used for MEX-CUN, MEX-MIA and stuff like that.

Hi everybody, EddieDude, about the A318 in ORD or YYZ, some flights are getting cancelled due to low demand on this days, even MX184 MTY-ORD and MX185 ORD-MTY is getting cancel almost everyday, today got cancelled with 8 passengers, so with some of those you put them on a A318 with the other 80 of the flight where they are protecting all of them, it makes money, also serves for testing the aircraft and arrange the permissions for the aircraft, right now XA-UBQ/UBR/UBS can fly to US and Canada, UBT, UBU only Mexico, and UBV is not flying right now.
About the A321, it will be used on high density routes, but the idea here, is not pulling it out from MEX full, (you can´t), so, you send it with not too much passengers to CUN or MTY or other cities, and return it full from those cities, where it can depart with almost no problem.
The 757 lease contracts where getting a little bit high, that´s why they are retiring the plane, and analyzing the A321; commonality here

Good on MX. What a great carrier with prudent strategy! Excellent staff, and management alike. Mexico can be proud of their world class airline! Mexicana, the choice to Mexico. Congratulations.

Too bad that ORD is performing weakly at the moment. I recall that all the ORD-MEX-ORD flights I took when I was studying in Chicago were always full no matter what time of the year (I flew MX, AM and AA and this was true in all three cases). Hopefully it is just temporary.
About the A321, I hope to fly one of them as soon as they arrive! It would be awesome if MX had a special introductory fare to MTY so that I can go visit some friends while experiencing the long narrowbody.
25 Pecevanne: Hi friends....they Just start on looking on the A-321 and nothing confirmed yet. They think that the aircraft Will fit perfect markets as MEX-CUN, MEX
26 N405MX: Not sure about the CFM engines for the MX A321, mostly the decision will go for the IAE, it works really great with the A320, and for the weight that
