Stewart Airport officials took Orange County's big guns to JetBlue Airlines last week in the ongoing effort to woo the successful low-cost carrier to Stewart Airport.
Orange County Executive Edward Diana revealed yesterday that Airport President Charles Seliga and he last week met with JetBlue's CEO, president and vice president of operations to continue the drive to convince the airline to come to the Hudson Valley. Right now, JetBlue flies from New York metropolitan area airports.
"JetBlue is very encouraging; they're looking very strongly at Stewart Airport and I can tell you I believe the future of Stewart Airport is very, very bright," Diana said.
Diana told the Orange County Chamber of Commerce meeting in Middletown yesterday that Stewart is "our own economic engine." The airport needs more low-cost destinations to meet the needs of the Hudson Valley's flying public.
Senator Charles Schumer has recently sad that JetBlue is looking very seriously at Stewart and may be coming to Newburgh in the future.
The airline is adding new regional jets to their fleet and Schumer has said that can open up the airline to new markets like the Hudson Valley

I's only a matter of time before a solid LCC sets up shop there. I've always thought it a natural for WN, especially after ISP opened as it would enable WN to surround NYC without getting into the traffic problems at LGA, EWR and JFK.

Quoting AlitaliaMD11 (reply 3): Are you serious?! This is so great! SWF is my main airport in New York, becuase it is 30 minutes from my house. That would be great if B6 started flying to SWF, or even more LCC airlines!
It would probably be FLL-SWF and maybe MCO or TPA-SWF. If we do start SWF-Florida, Id be very happy myself as im also kinda close to SWF. I WISH we could start HPN-Florida flights!! That would be perfect!

Do you mean vehicle traffic or air traffic, because the majority of the Region's population is South of Newburgh. Which means a drive up the NY State Thruway, which flows great except near the Harriman outlets which is a nightmare on Weekends.
I have strong doubts about B6 at SWF, too far from the region's core.
Also the fact that the Newburgh officials went down to visit Jetblue's folks in Queens instead of B6's folks going up to visit the facilities at SWF speaks volumes.
