I am going to Calgary for a week next month and I would like to spend some time spotting aircrafts arriving and departing and would like to know the best places to view from. And I do know about the one area just of McKnight Blvd on the south end of the field. I was just wondering if there are any others people would recommend?

Have fun with your visit in cowtown. Spotting places are abundant to please any type of spotter whether it be airliners, military, biz, and GA.
McKnight is the most publicly accessible spot, drive around a 300m radius and you will find other excellent spots which brings you up to the fence especially beside airplane hangars like the Shell Aerocenter slightly north of the McKnight.
On the Cargo area there are places where you can park to view planes leaving/landing and taxiing. WestJet parking lot is also excellent and as long as common sense is followed, there should be no problems with the company having you watch planes from their lot. (its quite big so at the end there are loads of empty stalls).
Along the road McCall Way, you can get great views of Runway 28 and its arrivals. Roadside pullover is possible but be brief!
North end has a gravel road leading under the rwy 16, it is alright as well but probably the most distant spot to get a good view of the planes.
Eitherway, have fun and later on I may post a link showing many of the spots at the airport.

As BO__einG says , the southwest area at McKnight and 12th St E just to the south of the Shell Aerocentre is good , and also the southeast corner
along the service road/Palmer rd area (Esso Avitat ) and along the east side
of the airport ,the service road has a good view. There's a parking lot about half way along, and there's a bike path all the way along the eastern fence.
