I was in briefing before my flight (JFK-SFO) and it was announced that one of our PS (premium service) 752's has been equipped with WIFI onboard. We are going to add it to the entire PS fleet eventually pending FAA's approval.

I was already impressed with the newly configured 757's but with this addition it really will be the only option for transcon flying for business people!

FA4UA-Why doesn't United just put WiFi internet on all of their aircraft? Additionally, why don't they get REALLY smart and put WiFi internet at their largest hub, namely Chicago-O'Scare?

PS is probably the best place to start WiFi because it will definately increase revenue and pricing power. EXCELLENT move.

While other US airlines are degrading their transcon services (both in frequency and service quality), it's good to see UA being imaginative and trying to attract business passangers with its PS service. Good luck UA!

Slightly off-topic: any chance of UA starting a BOS-SFO PS service any time soon?

I think to equip the whole fleet of nearly 500 aircraft with WIFI might be a little pricey. To choose one of our most business concious routes and start there is tactful and prudent.

Very excited about this!

I really hope they are not using the crap Verizon JetConnect system (which is not really WiFi). Connexion is really the only thing going that is really good at this point, so I can see them going that way. I just want to know where they would get the money.

Well, given that Boeing did develop their Connexion system I'm sure Boeing could offer the system to UA for installation on their p.s.-configured 757-200's for very cheap prices.  Smile

Or how about putting PS on the EWR-LAX/SFO runs to give NYC area business travellers who live in NJ the same respect that the Nassau, Westchester, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, East-side Manhattan travellers are receiving?!

Perhaps as an add-on to the LH launch order? Or maybe as part of helping with exit financing

Is tere some law that says people can't drive from NJ to JFK but they can drive from Westchester to JFK? Is New York it's own country now (sure feels like it sometimes)?

SHUPirate1 - ORD might be like LAX, where the airport will not allow UAL to put in HotSpots because LAWA has signed an agreement with some other supplier but hasn't rolled the system out to the entire airport.

Sure, if I lived in Bergen, Essex, Morris or Somerset county in NJ (some of the very richest in the country), and I was a highly paid executive, I would have no problem choosing to drive 2 hours+ to JFK with all the traffic and avoiding EWR which is only 30 minutes (and no traffic) away!  Yeah sure
