WIth all of the talk of consolidation, airlines going out of business, etc..i was thinking of a possible good combination would be America West and Independence Air. America West has the western hub(s) and by combining with Independence, would give it the east coast precense. I think potentially it could work out pretty nice. Any thoughts? cheers

Given the right economic circumstances, it could. The RJ fleet with the A319's would be a good fit, and there's not a large duplication of the routes, but...
No airline is in any position to take over another right now. Even Southwest is being very cautious, at least until fuel prices stabilize. If any airline does fail, other airlines will take only what they know they can use, not what they'd like to use.
Not to mention, HP would be taking on UA at Dulles - would either airline really want a battle like that right now?
