Qantas chief financial officer Peter Gregg says "we like the low-cost model" and will be looking to roll Jetstar out to new markets. Chief executive Geoff Dixon admits Qantas is making a loss across the Tasman. Put the two together and it probably won't be long before Jetstar heads to the Land of the Long White Cloud. Qantas, Air New Zealand and Virgin Blue are waging a brutal price war across the Tasman. The carnage across the Tasman represents a perfect opportunity for Qantas to roll out its two pronged approach to travel boosting its service on the high-yield business market and switching the rest to Jetstar. Under such a plan it's likely travellers on routes such as Sydney-Auckland will enjoy a slightly smartened up product, delivered at a higher price. For those who don't want to cough up the big bucks and just want to get from A to B, Jetstar will be their only option from the Qantas stable. Jetstar would likely be rolled out in the New Zealand domestic market and leisure routes such as Brisbane-Christchurch, in a defensive move by Qantas to shield itself from the price war, by putting in a product that is much cheaper to run.
Sounds like only Wellington, Christchurch and the Domestic routes will get Jetstar flights

I read somewhere that Alan Joyce, the Jetstar CEO, said this won't occur untill 2007 at the earliest. They still need to build up their domestic ops and get more of the A320's delivered before they can even realistically consider doing it.

Nothing to stop them re-branding the Jetconnect domestic operations/aircraft in the interim. (Just an idea...) The JQ crews over here were QFLink up until 24 May 2004. Some had to take both uniforms on multi-day trips and changed airlines literally overnight. Pretty tragic management style as far as employee culture goes but it is Qantas afterall....

Quoting ZKSUJ (reply 4): This is one market that does not need more competition due to price wars, but hey, its good for the customers
Not true. Markets out of WLG are NOT the best for QF. NZ, DJ and SJ carry more passengers in and out of WLG then QF does. JQ would defently take over all operation out of WLG. The routes out of CHC that Jetconnect operate on and would see JQ take over. QF and JQ would work together on the New Zealand market.
