Capri, taxes at CDG are FAR from being the highest in the world !!! where did you get that ?
ATH taxes are ridiculously high ! they were raised many years ago to finance the new E.Venizelos Airport... The airport is now in service for a few years, mostly financed by the European Union, and the PAX continue to pay the same taxes !

Airlines complain about the high costs in AMS all the time, and the high landing fees were one of the reasons for U2 to discontinue AMS-NCE-AMS and AMS-BCN-AMS.

Quoting AngelAirways (reply 1): I believe in Europe it is Zurich, (possibly in the world, though I can be wrong).
Zurich has high taxes but by far not the highest in Europe. LHR has much higher taxes and I think FRA is about the same. In the other parts of the world there are plenty of airports which have much higher taxes, for example NRT , HKG and others.

On the other hand, I think high parking fees in CDG prompted RG to extend its flight GRU-CDG to AMS. It was more expensive to park the a/c in CDG than to fly the short leg CDG-AMS.

LHR definitely has some of the highest passenger taxes in the world. For longhaul flights from LHR you are looking at anything between 60 GBP to 90 GBP (don't know why it varies so much), nothing below that though. And having flown out of LHR numerous times, i've never paid anything less than 60 GBP in taxes in addition to the fare.

Would LGW have the same taxes as LHR? I just booked an award ticket, IAH-LGW return, and the taxes per person were:
U.S. Customs User Fee: $5.00
U.S. Immigration User Fee: $7.00
U.S. APHIS User Fee: $4.95
Security Service Fee: $5.00
UK Air Passenger Duty: $75.54
UK Passenger Service Charge: $13.60
