Can anyone confirm the status of their possible B777 + B737NG order?
I've heard they already placed an order for 3 + 5 but I'm not sure where to confirm it.

Unlikely that there has been anything signed. Boeing doesn´t list and 737/777 UFO order as of Feb 15th, and no leasing group has announced anything in this regard. Would treat it as a rumour, nothing else.

TAAG still operates the B747s for their long-haul flights and I would doubt they are about get one B777. One of their B747 was seized in JNB some weeks ago but released some hours after.

Agree, it is a question of the money being there. Their CEO visited Seattle late last year and expressed a strong interest in 2-3 777 and 5 737NG. With the number of 777 at 2-3, I assumed this number would replace the 747s. I think this is one order where we'll just have to wait and see whether it eventuates.
