Hi all,
I am wondering which part of T4 Independence Air uses at JFK and what other airlines serve that part.
Also, I am not familar with the domestic operation set up at T4, so is it possible to remain in the terminal (the gate area) after arriving from an Independence flight?

Independence uses gate 23B which is a stand on the tarmac, and you just go in and you don't need to go through customs. They mai area with all the shops is where they can hang out and stuff.

SafetyDude, to answer the part of your question about other airlines using the same part of terminal 4, we park next to a Varig MD-11 in the mornings, and the one time I have flown up there in the afternoon, we parked next to a SWISS A340. As a crewmember for FLYi, JFK is one of the most exciting airports we fly into because of all the international traffic. Hell, even taxiing at JFK is exciting. A visual feast of airlines.

I have landed there with I-Air.
The gate has no airbridge and is wedged under the wing of a larger plane! Well maybe no literally, but you get the idea. I believe when I was there it was Varig MD-11. I believe they may be the only scheduled domestic carrier at T-4. You have special paths that take you to the departure area when you land, instead of customs. As someone who frequently arrives there on international flights, you kind of feel like you are going out the back door.
Additionally, depending on your arrival time- the terminal can be almost barren.

When I landed in the morning we were parked next to North American 757. Next evening when I was going back to IAD, Swiss A330 was parked next gate and when Swiss left, Loftleidir Icelandic 757 parked right there.

Not A.net quality but always something to look at

Northwest uses T4 as well. Up until recently, Continental did as well.
When I fley Indy Air from JFK, there was nothing on the side the gate was on, a Biman DC-10 across from us, and an LY 744 at the far end of the concourse.

The gate where the NAA aircraft is located is B25, the Indy Air gate is B23. Indy Air is the only airline that used B23. B25 is occupied by BWIA West Indies Airways in the early mornings and late evenings and by Varig for the rest of the day. B27 and B29 are usually occupied by Swiss and sometimes Virgin later in the evening.
